The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Assurance, the Managing consultant holds a pivotal position, contributing to the growth of the Assurance practice through effective management of the established team and providing ongoing thought leadership and growing product offerings and revenue streams.
A major function of the role is to assist in meeting specific financial and profitability targets for the Assurance division. This will be achieved through identifying ways to reduce the effort required to complete engagements, lower cost delivery models or other efficiencies. Pre-sales activities, being a friend of sales, and taking part in marketing activities, which may include webinars, in-person presentations and internal meetings. Ensuring the Assurance team are working effectively, efficiently and have the training and support they require for their own needs, and those of the business. The Managing consultant will be responsible for ensuring that Assurance deliverables.
The Managing consultant will be responsible for assisting with a successful go to market strategy and delivery of successful projects for our customers, on time and on budget. Key to this role will be the ability to lead by example, using your strong technical aptitude and leadership skills to take our established Assurance team to the next level, through upskilling, new methodologies, and mentorship.
Whilst leading the team, this is also a hands-on role, and you will be required to oversee and undertake billable engagements. The design, development and delivery of marketing activities will also form a crucial part of this role.
Collaborating with the Sales team, the role will provide pre-sales and post-sales support in identifying customers’ wants and needs by drawing on your extensive industry knowledge around Assurance best practice applications, principles and standards.
Responsibilities
Delivery of Assurance Services
Evaluate process effectiveness and identify areas for continuous improvement across the Assurance business.
Identify skills gaps within the team to facilitate hiring/training decisions.
Ensure the deliverables of the Assurance team remain at a high standard.
Ensure that all consultants have the tools, training and support to perform their jobs.
Hands on penetration testing across all disciplines.
Friend of Sales – Scoping and planning of penetration testing delivery.
Select, design and create appropriate tools for testing.
Document methodologies and approaches to ensure they adapt with changes over time.
Keep up to date with latest testing and ethical hacking methods.
QA of Reports.
Analyse outcomes and make recommendations for security improvements.
Act as the point of contact for all Assurance project issues and customer escalations.
Provide training to the Sales team on new product offerings or industry changes.
Ensuring all resources understand their upcoming projects and that prerequisites have been met by customers in advance of the engagement.
Assurance Delivery Management
Ensure that systems which are critical to the assurance team are secure and maintained.
Analyse and document security events. Identify root causes, prioritise threats and recommend or implement corrective actions. Test and deploy risk mitigation process.
Review and advise on current and future technologies before implementation.
Documentation of Assurance procedures and policies.
Assess and review ways of automating, orchestrating, streamlining and combining relevant technologies to uplift capability.
Identify new product offerings or strategies to increase revenue.
Collaborate with other divisions to identify opportunities to combine product offerings.
Management of internal Assurance security (AWS/Azure).
Team Management
Manage and grow a team of security consultants across pre-sales and post-sales functions, proportionate with business needs.
Working with the Head of Assurance and P&C, assist with recruitment, training and mentoring of the team, staff engagement, career planning and development and delivery utilisation.
Ensure the professional development needs of the team are being met, keeping up to date with the latest changes in the industry, needs of the business, and the consultants career path.
Identify team engagement drivers and address any team concerns.
Ensure set team goals and objectives are specific, measurable, monitored and being met by the team.
Assist the assurance team in managing time effectively to reduce consultant fatigue and ensure that deliverables are delivered on time.
Knowledge Expertise
Provide extensive industry knowledge to customers on security solutions – across all Infotrust disciplines.
Oversee project deliverables to ensure solutions are implemented to best practice and in line with customer and business requirements.
Create and expand lasting relationships with customers and partners, based on subject matter expertise, cyber thought-leadership – becoming a trusted advisor to our customers on their security strategy
Ensure customer feedback is reported as excellent, resulting from their experience working with the Assurance team.
Technical expertise on Pen Testing/Ethical Hacking as/when needed.
Evangelise best practice, research and knowledge sharing.
Assess and scope testing activity and perform job estimates as required – ensuring that testing activity defined in scopes are delivered to the highest standard.
Take part in customer facing marketing events.

Ensure that the team are working on approved projects only.

Improvement of delivery timelines for customer deliverables.
Improvement of customer experience with Assurance products.
Managing the expectation of the Assurance team against that of the business.
Work with project management to ensure that the right people are on the right engagement.
Develop tools and templates to provide delivery efficiencies for the Assurance team.
Ensure that the team remain utilised in a profitable and sustainable manner.
Manage and grow a team of security consultants, who are highly engaged and continuing in their own development, whilst delivering successful customer projects.
Introduction of new services or products to the Assurance portfolio.
Oversee the planning, scheduling and tracking of effective assurance engagements run by internal team members.
Reinforce our go-to market strategy across Assurance services.
Develop training or activities that foster cross departmental involvement.
Keep up to date with latest testing and ethical hacking methods, including conducting and participating in research, attending at conferences.
Increase your public profile through conference presentations, webinars, blogs, interviews.
Collaborate on cross-functional projects with all parts of the business.
Provide insight into the overall penetration testing solution.
Support the Infotrust and Spirit business in achieving their goals.
Skills:
5-10 years’ experience working in an Assurance security specialist role.
5 years’ experience at a similar level, running an Assurance team.
Demonstrated people leadership skills.
Strong soft skills and customer service skills.
Sound understanding through experience of customer needs and requirements.
Technical SME across multiple assurance disciplines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate complex security and technology concepts to a broad and diverse audience.
Ability to write and present formal reports and presentations on security proposals, results or issues.
Adept at explaining technical situations and solutions to non-technical parties.
Experience in developing cyber/information security strategy and strategy execution.
Proven track record building strong relationships with customers, key business leaders and Stakeholders.
Outstanding organisational and data analytics skills.
Relevant tertiary qualifications (degree in computer security, computer science or equivalent).
At least two of the following certifications: OSCP, OSCE, CREST, etc.
Red team or adversarial simulation experience a bonus.
Solid knowledge and experience of using a variety of penetration testing or threat modelling tools including open source and commercial mapping.
Experience with IT and cybersecurity strategy, policies, standards, procedures, and controls.
Experience and practical understanding of Information Security Standards & Frameworks.
