Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to support a major data migration programme for a tier-one financial services organisation. This role is responsible for delivering the safe, controlled migration of data from a legacy platform to a new, modern data platform.
You will play a key role in ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and traceability throughout the migration lifecycle, working closely with technology, product, and business stakeholders to meet regulatory, risk, and operational requirements.
The role is hands-on and delivery-focused, leveraging AWS-native data services to execute a structured, auditable migration aligned to financial services standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed analysis of legacy data platforms, including schemas, data quality, lineage, and dependencies.
- Develop a strong understanding of the target-state data platform, including data models, controls, and architectural constraints.
- Define, document, and maintain data mapping specifications between legacy and target platforms, including transformation logic and validation rules.
- Design, build, and execute data migration pipelines that are robust, repeatable, and auditable.
- Implement data pipelines using AWS data tooling, including : Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Managed Apache Airflow (MWAA), dbt
- Apply data quality controls, reconciliation checks, and exception handling to ensure completeness and accuracy of migrated data.
- Support migration testing, validation, and sign-off, including defect analysis and remediation.
- Collaborate with engineers, product owners, risk, and business stakeholders to ensure migration outcomes align with business and regulatory expectations.
- Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including mappings, controls, and operational runbooks.
- Adhere to security, compliance, and change management practices expected in regulated financial services environments.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience delivering data migration or platform modernisation initiatives, ideally within financial services or other regulated industries.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS-based data platforms.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with complex, high-volume datasets.
- Practical experience using dbt for data transformation and modelling.
- Experience orchestrating data workflows using Apache Airflow or managed equivalents.
- Strong understanding of data governance, controls, and auditability.
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders in an enterprise environment.
