Graduate Accountant – Insolvency

All Analysts • Melbourne, Victoria 3000, Australia • Full-time

Description

Why insolvency (and why Mackay Goodwin)

Insolvency sits at the intersection of accounting, law, strategy and human decision-making. It develops commercial judgement faster than many traditional accounting pathways and opens doors into restructuring, advisory, banking, corporate finance and senior leadership roles. It’s not about ticking boxes or watching businesses fail. It’s about problem-solving under pressure, understanding how businesses actually operate, and helping directors, creditors and stakeholders navigate critical moments.

Mackay Goodwin is one of Australia’s fastest-growing advisory and insolvency firms, with a team of over 100 people across Australia and the Asia Pacific. We are industry leaders, known for doing things differently. We invest heavily in training, systems and people, and we promote based on capability – not tenure.

If you’re curious about what insolvency actually looks like day to day, we encourage you to visit our LinkedIn page and watch the short videos from our team. They give a genuine insight into the work we do, the people you’ll work with, and what life at Mackay Goodwin is really like.

You’ll be joining a firm that values:

– learning and mentorship

– accountability and trust

– collaboration over hierarchy

– people who think, not just follow process

What you’ll actually be doing

As a Graduate Insolvency Analyst, you’ll work alongside senior insolvency practitioners on real appointments across liquidations, voluntary administrations and small business restructures. You’ll learn how businesses work – and what happens when things go wrong.

Your role will include assisting with:

– analysing financial information and cashflows

– preparing reports to creditors and regulators

– communicating with directors, creditors and external stakeholders

– managing statutory obligations and key deadlines

– supporting senior staff on investigations and restructuring matters

This is not a passive graduate role. You’ll be trusted, supported, and expected to grow.

About you

You don’t need prior insolvency experience. We’re more interested in how you think.

You may be a good fit if you:

– have completed (or are completing) a degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Business or Law

– are curious, organised, and comfortable asking questions

– can communicate clearly in writing and conversation

– enjoy problem-solving and working through complexity

– want a career with progression, not just a job

What we offer

– structured graduate training and mentoring

– exposure to real matters from day one

– clear career pathways and professional development support

– competitive remuneration and benefits (monthly paid bonus, wellness leave)

– a supportive, high-performing team environment

Our high appointment volume means graduates gain exposure to real matters early, develop practical commercial skills quickly, and work alongside experienced practitioners on complex and varied engagements.

If you’re looking for a graduate role that will challenge you, develop you, and set you up for a strong commercial career, we’d like to hear from you.
