The Role
We are seeking an experienced engineering leader to drive the development of SafeGauge’s next generation of connected safety technology. In this role, you will lead a multidisciplinary engineering and product design team across hardware, firmware, software, and industrial design to deliver innovative, reliable, and commercially successful products.
You will play a key role in shaping product strategy, guiding technical architecture, and leading development programs from concept through to production. Working closely with leadership, manufacturing, and cross-functional teams, you will ensure SafeGauge continues to deliver world-class solutions that improve safety across the global mining and heavy industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the engineering and product design team across hardware, firmware, software, and industrial/product design disciplines
- Ensure engineering and design development aligns with commercial objectives and customer needs
- Evaluate new product opportunities and ensure engineering effort is focused on viable, market-driven products
- Lead product development programs from concept through to production
- Develop and manage engineering project plans, timelines, and milestones
- Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, product design, manufacturing, and leadership
- Monitor project risks, dependencies, and delivery schedules to ensure successful product outcomes
- Provide technical oversight for development of connected hardware products including BLE-enabled sensors, embedded electronics, industrial product housings, and integrated software systems
- Guide system architecture decisions across PCB design, firmware, product design, mobile applications, and cloud platforms
- Ensure products are designed with consideration for manufacturability, reliability, cost targets, usability, and compliance requirements
- Participate in design reviews, validation testing, and engineering process improvements
- Ensure engineering activities comply with SafeGauge’s ISO9001 quality management system
- Maintain strong communication between engineering, design, leadership, and other departments to ensure alignment on product priorities and development progress
- Support supplier engagement and technical collaboration where required
- Set a strong example of professionalism, fairness, and ethics in accordance with SafeGauge’s Code of Conduct
- Comply with relevant Equal Employment Opportunity and Work Health and Safety regulations
- Perform other duties as required to support SafeGauge’s engineering and product development objectives
What you will bring to the role
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Product Design, or related field
- 10+ years experience in engineering, product development, or technical leadership roles
- Strong experience managing product development projects and multidisciplinary engineering and design teams
- Experience delivering hardware-software integrated products such as IoT devices, industrial sensors, robotics, or similar systems
- Strong understanding of embedded systems including PCB design, firmware development, wireless connectivity (Bluetooth preferred), and product development processes
- Demonstrated experience managing product development timelines, milestones, and engineering resources
- Strong product management awareness with the ability to balance technical development with commercial realities
- Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills
- Strong organisational and project management capability
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connected devices
- Experience working with industrial or mining technology
- Experience with mobile applications and cloud-connected systems
- Familiarity with ISO9001 and product compliance requirements
- Experience transitioning products from development into manufacturing
