Our Purpose: We exist for animals to live better lives.

About the Role

The Payroll and Workforce Lead plays a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant payroll while strengthening how rostering and workforce data are managed across the organisation.

Working closely with managers, you’ll help drive best practice use of Employment Hero’s rostering and time and attendance tools, improving visibility, accuracy and workforce planning across teams. You’ll also contribute to payroll reporting and act as the primary backup to the Payroll Manager when required.

What We’re Looking For

You are a payroll professional who brings both technical expertise and a practical, solutions-focused mindset. You enjoy working closely with managers to help them understand payroll and workforce processes, and you take pride in ensuring systems and data are accurate, compliant and well maintained.

You’re confident navigating awards and enterprise agreements, interpreting payroll requirements and translating them into clear guidance for others. At the same time, you enjoy improving systems and processes, helping teams use tools like Employment Hero more effectively to manage rostering, attendance and workforce data.

You are highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable working autonomously, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. Most importantly, you’re someone who values collaboration, communicates clearly and is motivated by contributing to work that supports a meaningful purpose.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to payroll queries from employees and managers, providing clear and accurate guidance.
  • Support managers to effectively use Employment Hero’s rostering and time and attendance tools, including Live View and automated timesheets.
  • Coach managers in best practice workforce planning and rostering, including classifications, shift costing and labour budgets.
  • Monitor roster and timesheet accuracy, identifying issues such as missed clock-ins or exceptions and working with managers to resolve them.
  • Promote consistent use of Employment Hero features that improve transparency and real-time workforce visibility.
  • Ensure rostering and timesheet data aligns with award rules, including penalties, overtime and classification requirement.
  • Contribute to payroll reporting and workforce insights to support budgeting and operational decisions.
  • Interpret and apply modern awards and the RSPCA enterprise agreement, ensuring correct pay rates and allowances.
  • Act as the primary backup to the Payroll Manager, supporting payroll processing, reporting and compliance.
  • Assist with payroll audits, escalations and complex payroll matters.

What You’ll Bring to the Role

  • At least 5 years’ experience in Australian payroll, with strong knowledge of the Fair Work Act, modern awards and enterprise agreements.
  • Experience using Employment Hero payroll, rostering and time and attendance systems.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent reconciliation and data accuracy skills.
  • Ability to coach and support managers in rostering and workforce planning.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to translate technical payroll concepts into practical guidance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage competing priorities and maintain confidentiality.
