6,500 members across 106 Sub‑Branches, we are a unique intergenerational
organisation welcoming current and ex‑serving members of the Australian Defence
Force and allied nations.

The Position
Due to internal movement, we
are seeking a compassionate and experienced Claims Advocate to join our
dedicated Advocacy Team as we continue our commitment to supporting Western
Australia’s veteran community.
Working within the Veteran
Services directorate, you will advocate for current and former Australian
Defence Force (ADF) personnel and their families, guiding them through the
claims process and working to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
As part of a supportive and
collaborative Advocacy Team, you will:
- Advocate on behalf of current and
former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families
throughout the compensation and entitlements claims process
- Provide accurate, timely advice on
DVA legislation, policies, and available benefits
- Prepare, lodge, and manage claims,
including gathering medical evidence, service records, and supporting
documentation
- Maintain regular contact with
clients, providing clear updates, guidance, and emotional support
throughout their claim
- Liaise with the Department of
Veterans’ Affairs (DVA), medical professionals, legal representatives, and
other stakeholders to progress
- Review decisions and, where
appropriate, prepare and submit requests for reconsideration or appeals
- Maintain detailed, accurate, and
confidential client records in line with organisational and legislative
requirements
- Work collaboratively with the
Advocacy Team and broader Veteran Services directorate to ensure holistic
support for
- Uphold RSL WA values and contribute
to continuous improvement of advocacy services and outcomes
What You Need
Successful
candidates will have:
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy, case
management, claims management, or a related support role (veteran services,
community services, legal, health, or government environments highly regarded)
- Sound understanding of, or willingness to develop
knowledge in, Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) legislation, policies, and
claims processes
- Experience working with vulnerable clients,
providing empathetic, trauma‑informed, and client‑centred support
- Proven ability to manage multiple cases, meet
deadlines, and maintain accurate and confidential records
- Strong written and verbal communication skills,
including experience preparing documentation, submissions, or correspondence
- Experience liaising with external stakeholders such
as government agencies, medical professionals, or legal representatives
- High level of attention to detail and ability to
interpret information, evidence, and decisions
Experience working with current or former ADF members, veterans,
or their families is highly desirable.
