WHO ARE WE?
The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation (‘BCF’) is one of Sydney’s most trusted frontline charities and has been supporting the community for over 40 years. Our mission is to address homelessness and hardship by providing essential services including food, social welfare, healthcare, education and community programs.
For more than 20 years BCF has also delivered literacy programs in primary schools across NSW and the Northern Territory. Our program supports children who have fallen behind in reading to
rebuild confidence and strengthen their literacy skills.
Using the ‘All About Reading’program and other structured resources, our Literacy Instructors create
engaging, supportive learning environments that help students improve their reading, spelling and phonics skills and return to grade level.
THE ROLE
We are currently seeking a Literacy Instructor to deliver BCF’s literacy program at a participating primary school in Eastwood.
This role works with students in Years 2–6 in small groups of 3–6 students, allowing you to tailor teaching approaches to individual learning needs. Each instructor supports approximately 20–30 students per school.
This is a part time role working Monday to Thursday from 9.00am to 2.00pm within the school environment.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Deliver structured and engaging literacy sessions using evidence-based teaching resources
- Plan lessons and set weekly learning objectives
- Support students to strengthen reading, spelling and phonics skills
- Conduct regular student assessments and track progress
- Maintain accurate records of attendance and student performance
- Liaise with school staff and the NSW Literacy Program Coordinator
- Prepare learning materials and teaching resources
- Write student progress reports and assist with end of term graduations
- Participate in training to support high quality program delivery
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
You are a patient and engaging educator who enjoys working with children and supporting their learning development.
You will also bring:
- Bachelor of Education (Primary), Certificate IV in Education Support or related qualification
- Experience working with primary school aged children
- Experience supporting children from diverse backgrounds
- Understanding of phonics based literacy instruction and child centred learning
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Confidence building positive relationships with teachers, students and school staff
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel
- Willingness to travel to school locations if required
- Alignment with the mission and values of BCF
