The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and intellectually curious Policy Officer to join REIWA. This is an excellent opportunity for an early career policy professional who enjoys research, analysing data and translating complex issues into clear, well structured written material. Reporting directly to the Executive Manager Policy & Advocacy, you will contribute to submissions, briefings, member communications and policy positions that shape decision-making across Western Australia.

Who you are

You’re naturally curious, well-informed and eager to build your career in policy and advocacy. You enjoy digging into research, understanding the broader political and economic context, and expressing your ideas clearly in writing.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and political developments relevant to the WA property sector.
  • Research economic, housing and market data to support evidence-based advocacy.
  • Assist in preparing submissions to all levels of government.
  • Draft briefing notes, discussion papers and member communications.
  • Analyse policy proposals and identify potential impacts on industry and consumers.
  • Support policy committees and stakeholder meetings, including preparation of agendas and papers.
  • Contribute to research projects and policy initiatives aligned to REIWA’s strategic priorities.
  • Maintain awareness of the broader political and economic landscape influencing housing and property.

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Early in their policy, economics, law, public affairs or research career (1–3 years’ experience preferred)
  • Genuinely interested in public policy, housing, planning or economic reform
  • Comfortable interpreting economic data and identifying key insights
  • Able to understand political context and emerging policy trends
  • A clear and structured writer who can present complex ideas simply and persuasively
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple pieces of work.
  • Curious, proactive and keen to learn.
  • Confident working both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.

A relevant tertiary qualification in public policy, economics, political science, law, commerce or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

How to Apply

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, we’d love to hear from you. Please submit your application via SEEK, including your current resume and a one-page cover letter telling us why you’re interested in the role and what you would bring to the team.

If you’d like to know more before applying, feel free to contact the Executive Manager, People and Culture on (08) 9380 8262 or via email at kerry.akhurst@reiwa.com.au for a confidential conversation.
