What you’ll do

The primary objective of this role is to provide effective leadership and oversight of operations in our locomotive maintenance workshop, located at our large rollingstock manufacturing and maintenance facility in Kilburn. The role will supervise a team of Rollingstock Maintainers to carry out safe, high-quality and timely maintenance activities on our fleet of locomotives, ensuring optimal reliability of our assets and a high standard of service for our customers.

Some of the key responsibilities of the Workshop Manager – Locomotive Maintenance include:

  • Oversee the workflow of tasks across the workshop team, ensuring the appropriate allocation and priority of work
  • Act as an escalation point and technical support resource for both the team and customers as required
  • Promote a strong safety culture within the workshop and embed a continuous improvement mindset amongst the team
  • Oversee general workshop operations including rostering, tooling, safety initiatives and activities and equipment maintenance
  • Liaise with the Procurement team around the ordering and acquisition of required parts, in line with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities
  • Ensure that the workshop area and all activities carried out within the workshop meet operational, rail safety and environmental standards
  • Act as an integral member of the leadership team, providing regular reports and updates to senior management

What you’ll bring

To enable success in the role, you will have:

  • A recognised trade certificate in applicable field
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the maintenance and/or manufacture of freight rail rollingstock
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Rail Safety legislation and management standards
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with both customers and suppliers
  • An ability to work as part of a leadership team, engaging in key organisational activities such as business planning, tender processes and team management
  • Strong skills and experience with technology
  • Sound knowledge in risk management
