The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Desktop Estimator to join our growing estimating team. This role plays an important part in supporting insurance building projects by preparing accurate desktop estimates and project assessments using site reports, photographs, documentation and supporting information provided by on-site teams.
Working closely with Estimators, Supervisors and Project Administrators, you will ensure estimates are produced efficiently, accurately and in line with insurer and client requirements.
Preparing accurate desktop quotations in line with client pricing requirements and company procedures.
Your Tasks
- Reviewing and adjusting site reports including roof reports and causation reports
- Completing estimates and documentation using information provided by on-site Estimators and Supervisors
- Validating variations, Escape of Liquids (EOL), BAU and event-related estimates and reports
- Identifying potential variations or additional works and documenting them clearly for site review
- Reviewing quotations as requested by clients and ensuring accuracy prior to submission
- Submitting quotations and reports through insurer portals and client systems within required KPIs
- Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain current pricing and scope requirements
- Updating Schedule of Rates (SOR) items to ensure estimates reflect current market pricing
- Maintaining accurate job notes, documentation and records within estimating and job management systems
- Supporting estimating process improvements and workflow efficiency
- Attending site inspections for complex or high-value claims when required
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to interpret construction documentation and prepare accurate estimates. You will also demonstrate:
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to interpret site reports, photographs and technical documentation
- Strong understanding of construction terminology and building methods
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a KPI-driven environment
- Confidence using estimating software and client portals
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Skills & Experience
- Trade qualification and/or Certificate IV in Building & Construction (or similar)
- Experience within construction estimating or insurance building environments highly regarded
- Familiarity with Schedule of Rates (SOR) pricing structures advantageous
- Exposure to variations and insurance claims processes beneficial
- Current unrestricted Driver’s Licence
- WHS certifications such as White Card, Working at Heights or First Aid desirable
