About the role:
We are seeking a Senior Network Architect to take accountability for the integrity, performance, and evolution of Pivotel’s IP network architecture.
Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, this role provides hands‑on technical leadership across network design, operations, optimisation, and lifecycle management. You will play a critical role in capacity planning, internet peering strategy, NNI design, and security posture, while also acting as a senior escalation point for complex network issues.
This role combines architecture, operational accountability, and leadership, including mentoring engineers and supporting the Network Operations Centre (NOC).
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, enhance, and govern Pivotel’s IP network architecture across core, access, mobile, and satellite services
- Own capacity planning, performance optimisation, and network lifecycle management
- Define and maintain internet peering strategy, traffic engineering, and NNI design and implementation
- Manage RIR resources and ensure compliance with relevant standards and procedures
- Evaluate emerging technologies to improve network capability, security, and automation
- Act as a key stakeholder for network change management approvals
- Oversee ongoing maintenance, security patching, and monitoring of network assets
- Establish and maintain escalation procedures to support the NOC and operational teams
- Provide senior‑level troubleshooting and resolution for complex network incidents
- Produce regular reporting on network availability, incidents, and performance
- Participate in network deployment and transformation projects, ensuring alignment with architectural and security standards
- Lead vendor evaluations, solution architecture reviews, and technical due diligence
- Support deployment teams with clear documentation, procedures, and technical guidance
- Lead and mentor a small team of engineers and technicians
- Support skills development and capability uplift across the Network and NOC teams
- Establish clear processes for cross‑functional engagement across Engineering, Security, and Technology teams
What you’ll bring to the role:
- Strong expertise in modern IP network architecture and security (mandatory)
- Proven experience with internet traffic engineering, peering strategies, NNIs, and RIR management
- Hands‑on experience with Juniper switching and routing platforms (minimum 2 years)
- Strong knowledge of cloud networking and cloud security
- Experience with 3GPP networking including MPLS, QoS, network slicing, micro‑segmentation, and 4G/5G RAN and microwave backhaul
- Experience with next‑generation firewall platforms
- JNCIP‑DC or equivalent architectural certification (essential)
- Exposure to virtualisation and Kubernetes (desirable)
- Minimum 5 years in architectural governance and strategic network planning
- Minimum 3 years in a team lead or people leadership role
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Proven ability to influence across engineering, security, and operational teams
