The Opportunity We are on the lookout for a Pre Contracts Estimator to work in a permanent position as part of our Business Development Team. The primary responsibility for this role is for accurately calculating the total costs associated with a project or a specific task. This role involves analysing project specifications, maps, and other client supplied documentation to prepare time, cost, and labour estimates for projects. The Estimator will work closely with the Delivery and Business Development Teams to ensure that our estimates are comprehensive and competitive.

The main responsibilities will be to

  • Review project specifications to determine the scope of work and materials required
  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor work
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary information and ensure estimates are comprehensive
  • Identify and quantify cost factors, such as time, materials and labour expenses
  • Collect and evaluate quotes from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure accuracy and competitiveness
  • Maintain a database of cost information for future reference
  • Provide support to Project Managers as part of project hand over of successful tenders

Essential Skills and Attributes

  • Ideally with 3+ years’ experience as an Estimator, Project Engineer or similar role in the Construction or Water Utilities industry (desirable)
  • Highly proficient with estimating software including MS Excel and MS Project
  • Proficient in reading maps and technical documents
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure all requirements of a project is captured
  • Proficient in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Full working rights in Australia
  • A proactive self-starter who can operate both individually and as part of a team
