Legal Counsel
Our Legal team is fast-moving and blends commercial thinking with regulatory expertise, partnering across the business to enable smart, sustainable growth.
As Legal Counsel, you’ll work at the intersection of product, technology and regulation — partnering closely with the business to enable growth while managing legal and regulatory risk in a practical, solutions-driven way. This is a genuinely generalist role where no one day will be the same, with plenty of room to grow.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts including partnership and referral agreements and content or other marketing agreements
- Draft, review and negotiate technology agreements, including payments partners, integration and, SaaS vendor contracts
- Support product, technology and go-to-market teams with pragmatic legal advice throughout the product lifecycle, be involved from ideation to launch
- Prepare and update platform terms and conditions, assist support teams with customer communications
- Assist the marketing team with marketing promotions, including reviewing marketing assets, preparing terms and condition and trade promotion permit/compliance where required
- Assist with regulatory and compliance matters relevant to a fintech environment, including AML/CTF, financial services and payments regulation and card scheme compliance
- Proactively identify, assess and manage legal and regulatory risk in a high-growth environment
- Assist with registration and management of Pay’s intellectual property rights, including an international trade-mark portfolio and domain names
- Assist with large corporate transactions and other group-level projects from time to time
- Support the broader legal and compliance team with launch into international markets, coordinating with foreign counsel as needed
- Develop, maintain and own scalable legal templates, policies and processes, supporting the broader legal team initiatives as the business scales
About You
- Admitted to practice law in Australia with a current unrestricted practising certificate
- Approximately 3-5 years Post Qualification Experience
- Experience gained in-house and/or via secondment from private practice would be highly regarded
- Strong grounding in commercial law (including commercial contracting) is essential
- Exposure to fintech, financial services or technology (including technology contracting) is highly regarded
- Commercial, solutions-focused mindset
- Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced, evolving scale-up environment
- Experience working across a range of legal areas and demonstrated ability to adapt with a willingness to learn as the business grows
