NQ Dry Tropics seeks an experienced People, Culture and Safety Advisor for a permanent position based in Townsville. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about ensuring the wellbeing and safety of more than 50 staff working in the office and out in the field.
Working as part of the Corporate Services team in collaboration with the People and Culture Manager, you will provide advice and support to managers and staff and contribute to and coordinate People and Culture functions, including HR, recruitment and retention, remuneration and benefits, culture & engagement, employee relations, training and development, work health and safety, legislative compliance and policy development and review.

Your key responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of NQ Dry Tropics staff training and professional development activities.
- Chair the WHS Committee and be the main point of contact for WHS matters.
- Administer the WHS component of contractor/consultant qualifications, ensure Safe Work Method Statements/risk assessments, insurance certificates of currency, copies of licences/tickets/qualifications are received, and conduct site audits if required.
- Coordinate and manage the recruitment and induction process
- Assist with developing and implementing strategic HR activities.
- Provide timely and accurate advice to supervisors and managers.
- Assist with reviewing and implementing HR & WHS policies and procedures, in compliance with legislation, and meeting or exceeding best practice.
The skills and attributes we are looking for include:
- demonstrated experience in human resources and work health and safety;
- sound understanding of State and Commonwealth legislative requirements in human resources and work health and safety;
- demonstrated experience in using computer systems such as Google Suite, Microsoft and HRIS systems. Experience in Employment Hero would be desirable.
- strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain data records and deliver outputs on time;
- strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- experience working effectively both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Role requirements
Essential
- Tertiary qualifications in HR and/or WHS, or demonstrated experience in similar roles.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) and the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to identify problems and suggest solutions.
- High-level organisational skills, including the ability to organise and prioritise work activities to meet competing deadlines in a demanding, busy environment, including demonstrated attention to detail and thoroughness in all aspects of work.
- Demonstrated competency in using a variety of computer programs including Microsoft, and Google Suite.
Desirable
- Experience in using Employment Hero would be desirable.
