Position Purpose

The General Dentist is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred dental care across a range of general dentistry services. The role focuses on clinical excellence, ethical treatment planning, and positive patient outcomes, while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing clinical team.

The General Dentist plays a key role in building patient trust, supporting case acceptance, and upholding the clinic’s clinical, safety, and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive general dental services including examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and delivery of care
  • Perform restorative dentistry, preventative care, emergency treatment, and routine procedures within scope of practice
  • Develop clear, ethical, and evidence-based treatment plans aligned with patient needs and expectations
  • Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely clinical records in the practice management system
  • Identify cases requiring referral or specialist involvement and coordinate appropriately

Patient Experience

  • Deliver a calm, professional, and empathetic patient experience at every interaction
  • Clearly explain diagnoses, treatment options, risks, benefits, and costs to support informed consent
  • Work collaboratively with Treatment Coordinators and clinical staff to support case acceptance
  • Address patient concerns promptly and professionally, supporting long-term patient relationships

Clinical Quality & Safety

  • Adhere to all infection control, sterilisation, and clinical governance requirements
  • Comply with AHPRA standards, Dental Board guidelines, and relevant legislation
  • Participate in clinical audits, peer review, and continuous improvement activities
  • Ensure all clinical work meets internal quality benchmarks and best practice standards

Professional Development

  • Maintain current professional registration, indemnity insurance, and CPD requirements
  • Actively pursue ongoing clinical education to enhance skills and service offerings
  • Stay informed of emerging techniques, technologies, and best practices in dentistry
  • Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) or equivalent qualification
  • Current AHPRA registration with no restrictions
  • Strong diagnostic, clinical, and treatment planning skills
  • Excellent communication and patient engagement skills

Desirable

  • Experience working in a high-volume or multi-disciplinary clinic
  • Interest or experience in implants, cosmetic dentistry, or advanced restorative care
