About the Role:
The role of this position is to work with clients who are affected by alcohol and other drug misuse. The Residential Rehabilitation Support Worker role is to provide a safe and culturally appropriate environment for clients and support a range of program activities to help clients overcome their substance abuse.
Key Responsibilities:
To support clients dealing with substance misuse issues, your tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- Assess and document clients’ ongoing needs for alcohol and other drug (AOD) support services.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Support clients in reconnecting with their cultural identity by organising opportunities for participation in cultural events, ceremonies, and Aboriginal healing practices.
- Transport multiple clients independently when necessary or as directed by the manager.
- Advocate on behalf of clients when necessary, including attending court or other appointments as required.
- Transport clients to various scheduled appointments, ensuring all appointments are documented in the Direct Services Record.
Case Management Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate, relevant, and up to date client records and case notes in each client’s file.
- Run Tune In group at 9am each morning (if applicable to your shift time).
Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct regular urine drug screenings (UDS) and breathalyser tests for clients, ensuring accurate maintenance of screening records.
- Complete the Medication Coversheet when a client enters the program.
Data Management Responsibilities
- Uphold a high standard of professionalism by ensuring client confidentiality at all times.
- Conduct client feedback sessions and report the feedback to the Manager.
Food Handling Responsibilities
For staff rostered on weekend shifts or for sites without a cook or to cover cook’s leave.
- Prepare and serve meals to clients promptly, following the cook’s meal plan.
- Supervise the dining room during meal times to ensure an orderly environment.
Teamwork and Agency Representation
- Maintain team boundaries and confidentiality in a professional and respectful manner.
- Represent, promote and/or deliver the program/s in a professional high-quality manner.
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and culture, along with a commitment to supporting the Aboriginal community.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the issues related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and their impact on the Aboriginal community.
- Lived experience is beneficial.
- Proven skills in case management.
- Excellent organisational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work independently within defined guidelines, as well as collaboratively as a team member.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Current Victorian driver’s licence
- National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months)
- Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
