About the Role:
The role of the Residential Rehabilitation Cook is to manage all aspects of food delivery to Ngwala clients. Our cooks are expected to provide high quality, varied, nutritious meals in a safe and hygienic environment, whilst catering to individual dietary and cultural requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning and Preparation of Meals
- Determine the quantity of food required to prepare meals for clients.
- Plan and prepare meals within a set budget.
Storage and Use of Food
- Store food appropriately and ensure all food is dated, covered and labelled (eg: ‘left overs’ and date food was cooked).
- Ensure the “use by” and “best before” dates of all kitchen items are checked regularly and disposed of accordingly.
Kitchen Maintenance
- Implement proper procedures to keep the kitchen (surfaces, cupboards, equipment, utensils, etc) clean and achieve optimal infection control.
- Wash pots, pans and utensils and/or use the dishwasher.
Financial
- Provide purchasing records and hand over unspent cash to the Finance Team.
General Duties
- Be available to take up additional responsibility as directed by Executive Team.
- Attend relevant internal meetings and external meetings.
Professional Development
- Participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) evaluation and activities.
- Participate and engage in ongoing professional development and staff training need analysis.
Health & Safety
- Work in a healthy and safe manner and encourage the team to do the same.
- Be aware of and adhere to OH&S and Health & Wellbeing policies and procedures.
Physical Demands
- This position requires driving and sitting for periods of time, operating kitchen equipment, climbing stairs, lifting food boxes, and other related physical demands. Staff are responsible to only undertake physical duties they deem safe.
Teamwork and Agency Representation
- Maintain team boundaries and confidentiality in a professional and respectful manner.
- Represent, promote and/or deliver the program/s in a professional high quality manner.
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal history and/or culture and commitment to the Aboriginal community.
- Ability to provide varied and nutritional menus and knowledge of kitchen maintenance procedures
- Responsiveness to client individualistic dietary and cultural requirements.
- Understanding and commitment to health and safety practices.
- Organisational and time management skills.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Current Victorian driver’s licence
- National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months)
- Victorian Employment Working with Children Check
- Safe Food Handling Certificate
