Ngwala Willumbong Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation that is dedicated to delivering quality specialist Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Housing and Homeless and other services to meet the needs of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) People and their families. Our services operate across Victoria.

About the Role:

The Family Therapist will play a crucial role in providing culturally responsive therapeutic services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Primary responsibilities include planning and delivering therapy sessions, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic practices, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care. The Family Therapist also contributes to program development and the establishment of effective intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver family therapy programs that are culturally responsive and tailored to individual client needs.
  • To effectively communicate and document information through KPI’s that meet the specific requirements of our clients.
  • Effectively manage client relationship and documentation whilst appropriately assessing and mitigating risks
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
  • Participate in the evaluation and development of therapy programs and intervention strategies.
  • Stay informed of latest trends and research in family therapy, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
  • Provide consultations and advice to management on matters related to family therapy.
  • Document all relevant activities and client progress notes related to therapy services.
  • Advocate for client needs within the organisation and broader community.
  • Represent the organisation at professional forums and conferences.
  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of evidence-based practice initiatives or protocols.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with clients, their families, and community stakeholders.
  • Maintain a strong focus on client safety and quality improvement and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Skills & Experience

  • A qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Requires applicant to have a minimum of three years’ experience in Family Therapy. Specifically in providing therapy and counselling services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and health services.
  • Familiarity with child safety standards and mandatory reporting requirements and completion of relevant (or a willingness to undertake training)

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Up to date Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) Registration
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence
  • National Police Certificate (not older than 3 months)
  • Victorian Employment Working with Children Check

Desirable

  • Additional qualifications in Family Therapy and/or Training & Assessment
  • MARAM Training
