POSITION OVERVIEW – HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER:

Ngurratjuta is seeking a Human Resources Manager (HR Manager) to lead the delivery of contemporary people and culture practices across the organisation. This role is critical in providing strategic and operational HR advice, strengthening workforce capability and culture, and ensuring compliance with industrial relations and employment legislation. The HR Manager will oversee key functions including recruitment and onboarding, performance and talent management, employee relations, policy development, learning and development, and HR reporting/systems to support effective service delivery across the region.

ABOUT THE CORPORATION:

Ngurratjuta was incorporated in August 1985 under the Aboriginal Corporations Act 1976 (Cth) before transitioning to incorporation under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (Cth). It is an Association of all those Communities deemed to have “affected” by the oil and gas mining operations at Mereenie and Palm Valley and provided a body to receive and distribute the statutory royalties payable to the affected Communities and groups under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 (Cth).

Ngurratjuta’s original purpose was to provide financially independent Aboriginal Communities with Inter-Community Corporations and utilise royalty funds to build an active investment base to protect accumulated royalty funds. Ngurratjuta has, over its 40 years of operation, built a portfolio of diverse investments and operated a number of successful enterprises across various industry sectors, whilst actively supporting Community development activities and infrastructure improvements in Member Communities.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As the HR Manager, you will play a key leadership role in developing and implementing HR strategies that support our business objectives. You will oversee all facets of human resources, including recruitment, performance management, employee relations, compliance, learning and development, and workforce planning.

REPORTS TO: Chief Operating Officer

LOCATION: This role is based in Alice Springs.

The Employer may require the Employee to perform their duties at various places of business/work sites in the Northern Territory, interstate or elsewhere.

The Employer will provide to the Employee transport and/or accommodation as required if the Employee is required to work in a location other than the Ngurratjuta Region.

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time

WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and manage end-to-end HR functions and processes.
  • Provide strategic HR guidance to senior leadership.
  • Drive initiatives that foster a positive, high-performance workplace culture.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.
  • Support managers with workforce planning and performance management.
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and staff development programs.
  • Manage employee relations and resolve workplace issues proactively.
  • Maintain and improve HR systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Design and execute firm wide training strategy, including program design and delivery

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

You will have an understanding that the administrative element of the job is crucial, and you’ll also have:

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in an equivalent HR role, preferably in a regional or remote setting.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment law and HR best practices.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources or related field.
  • Experience in HRIS systems and data-driven HR practices.
  • Exposure to Indigenous employment strategies and workforce inclusion activities.
  • Current Ochre Card and National Police Clearance (or ability to obtain).

Additionally, you will have:

  • Experience living in, engaging and working with remote Aboriginal communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal (verbal and written).
  • Project Management, organisation and time management skills, including the ability to manage varied and conflicting demands to agreed standards and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of the team.
  • Self-motivation with a capability to generate and execute ideas.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the effective implementation of Workplace Health & Safety and ethical and diversity practices in the workplace.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Data Management and experience in record keeping procedures.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • Annual Salary – $110,000-$130,000 (inclusive of all consideration for overtime and all allowances).
  • PBI Salary Packaging through CBB.
  • 5 Weeks Annual Leave + 17.5% Leave Loading.
  • 3 weeks Personal/Carers Leave.
  • $5000 towards Professional Development – Nontransferable.
  • Superannuation @ SGC+ 1%.
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate.
  • Term of Contract – 2 Years
