Position Purpose
The Assistant OOSH Coordinator supports the OOSH Coordinator in the effective day-to-day
operation of the Out of School Hours (OOSH) service at NSOA Early Learning
& OOSH Centre. This role assists in delivering a high-quality, inclusive,
and engaging play and leisure program for school-aged children, in line with My
Time, Our Place (V2.0), the National Quality Framework (NQF), and relevant
legislation and acts as the OOSH Co-Ordinator, when OOSH Co-ordinator is on leave.
The Assistant OOSH Coordinator provides leadership support to educators, assists with program
delivery and supervision, supports children’s wellbeing, and contributes to continuous improvement processes across the OOSH service.
Quality Area 1 – Educational Program and Practice
Support the OOSH Coordinator in implementing and maintaining a high-quality,
play-based OOSH program that reflects children’s interests, strengths, and voices.
Assist educators with daily and weekly program planning, setup, and evaluation, including before and after school care and vacation care programs.
Support documentation of children’s participation, wellbeing, and learning in line with service expectations.
Encourage child-led experiences, choice, and agency within the OOSH environment.
Quality Area 2 – Children’s Health & Safety
Support the health, safety, and wellbeing of all children attending the OOSH service.
Assist with implementing and monitoring active supervision practices across all OOSH environments.
Follow Child Protection policies and procedures and meet Mandatory Reporter obligations.
Support educators to implement safe practices, routines, and behaviour guidance strategies.
Assist with incident, injury, illness, and medication procedures in line with service policies.
Quality Area 3 – Physical Environment
Assist in maintaining safe, inclusive, and engaging indoor and outdoor OOSH environments.
Support the setup and pack-down of environments to ensure they are welcoming and age-appropriate.
Assist in identifying hazards, maintenance issues, and resource needs and report these to the OOSH Coordinator or leadership.
Support sustainable practices and environmental responsibility within the OOSH program.
Quality Area 4 – Staffing Arrangements
Provide day-to-day leadership, supervision, and mentoring to OOSH educators, students, and volunteers.
Support the OOSH Coordinator in the day-to-day organisation of educators, students, and volunteers.
Act as a point of contact for educators in the absence of the OOSH Coordinator.
Support induction and orientation of new OOSH educators, students, and volunteers.
Encourage teamwork, respectful communication, and professional conduct within the team.
Participate in supervision conversations, feedback, and professional development activities as required.
Model professional behaviour and uphold expectations outlined in service policies and procedures.

Build and maintain respectful, trusting, and responsive relationships with children.
Promote children’s agency, voice, choice, and leadership within the OOSH program.
Support inclusive practices that recognise children’s diverse abilities, cultures, identities, and family backgrounds.
Promote cultural safety and inclusion, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.
Model positive interactions, behaviour guidance strategies, and respectful communication.
Quality Area 6 – Collaborative Partnerships with Families & Communities
Establish and maintain strong, respectful partnerships with families through open, timely, and professional communication.
Support positive communication with families during arrivals, departures, and daily interactions.
Assist families with general OOSH enquiries and direct concerns to the OOSH Coordinator or leadership as appropriate.
Support children’s transitions between school, OOSH, and home.
Assist with community-based experiences and excursions as required.
Encourage family input and participation in the OOSH program and service decision-making where appropriate.
Build and maintain community partnerships that enhance children’s experiences, including schools, local organisations, and external professionals.
Quality Area 7 – Governance & Leadership
Support the OOSH Coordinator and leadership to ensure compliance with the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations.
Assist with service administration tasks such as attendance records, bookings, and documentation as required.
Act as the Responsible Person when delegated and appropriately qualified.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to service policies and procedures at all times.
Contribute to continuous improvement processes, including feedback, reflection, and service planning
Selection Criteria
Qualifications
Certificate III or Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (or equivalent), as recognised by ACECQA.
Current Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting qualification.
Current ACECQA-approved Anaphylaxis and Emergency Asthma Management training.
Accredited Child Protection Training.
Valid Working with Children Check.
Experience Requirements
Experience in an Early Childhood Service or OOSH Service.
Demonstrated ability to support educators and leaders and assist with program delivery
Emerging leadership experience or willingness to develop leadership skills
Knowledge Requirements
Sound knowledge of My Time, Our Place (V2.0), the National Quality Framework, Education and Care Services National Law (2010), and National Regulations (2011).
Knowledge of Child Protection legislation, WHS requirements, and inclusive practices.
Skill Requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to support and guide educators in day-to-day practices.

Computer literacy and ability to use digital documentation systems.
