Native Title Services Goldfields (NTSG) is the recognised native title service provider for the Goldfields Region of Western Australia. Our staff are a dedicated, highly motivated and team-oriented group, operating in a fast paced, complex and dynamic working environment.

Our primary function is to protect and advance the native title rights and interests of the native title claimants and holders of the Goldfields Region. This includes assisting native title claimants to have their native title rights and interests recognised by the Australian legal system.

About the role:

As a Senior Anthropologist at NTSG, you will be involved in project teams, undertaking field and desktop research in order to provide anthropological advice to native title claimants, native title holders, Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs), Native Title Services Goldfields (NTSG) staff, in relation to native title, heritage and other matters relevant to our mission. This is a full-time position offering opportunities for fieldwork, collaboration, and engagement with interdisciplinary teams to solve complex problems. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to, fieldwork, report writing, editing, presenting research, archiving research materials and supervising junior anthropologists and graduates within the organisation.

You have a well developed understanding and respect of Aboriginal peoples cultures, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal people, communities and organisations to ensure the work you produce is undertaken in culturally safe and appropriate ways.

You are not only a critical thinker but also a collaborative team player who thrives in diverse, interdisciplinary environments. With a deep sense of ethics, you approach your work with sensitivity and integrity, always striving to consider the impact of your work and the impact of researchers before you.

Your strong communication skills allow you to distil complex data into clear insights, demonstrated by your written work and ability to present in front of community groups.

To be considered for this position, it is essential that you have:

  • A degree in Anthropology (honours preferred), with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with and good working knowledge of relevant legislation including the Native Title Act and State and Commonwealth Aboriginal Heritage Acts;
  • Significant demonstrated knowledge, understanding and respect of Aboriginal peoples cultures, customs and society and the ability to gain and maintain credibility with Aboriginal people, communities and organisations.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to communicate clear information to clients and stakeholders and to prepare high quality reports, correspondence and other submissions.;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Time management and organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently without direction and in multi-disciplinary teams;
  • Willingness and ability to travel to remote locations throughout the Goldfields regularly throughout the year; and
  • Current WA driver’s licence.
  • Current National Police Clearance which is less than six months old or willingness to obtain one.
  • Experience working in native title will be highly regarded, particularly in regional and remote locations.
