Native Title Services Goldfields (NTSG) is the recognised native title service provider for the Goldfields Region of Western Australia. Our staff are a dedicated, highly motivated and team-oriented group, operating in a fast paced, complex and dynamic working environment.
Our primary function is to protect and advance the native title rights and interests of the native title claimants and holders of the Goldfields Region.
This includes assisting native title claimants to have their native title rights and interests recognised by the Australian legal system.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Research Manager to join our team. This senior role plays a vital part in supporting Aboriginal communities, native title groups, and key stakeholders across the Goldfields region. The ability to travel to locations in the Goldfields is an essential requirement of this role.
About the role:
As the Research Manager, you will lead, coordinate and deliver high‑quality research and anthropological services to support native title claims and PBC operations. You will oversee fieldwork programs, guide project teams, supervise research staff, and contribute to strategic planning as part of the Senior Management Team.
This role requires a strong understanding of native title, cultural engagement, and research methodology, along with the ability to work collaboratively with Goldfields Aboriginal communities.
About you:
You are an experienced researcher with strong skills in anthropology and native title and you are motivated by meaningful work with Aboriginal communities. You bring a solid understanding and respect for Aboriginal cultures and work in a way that is culturally safe, ethical and relationship‑focused.
You communicate clearly, translate complex information into practical insights, and are confident engaging with diverse audiences, including community groups. You are organised, adaptable, and able to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards.
As a leader, you support and guide staff, contribute to effective team environments, and bring a thoughtful, professional approach to fieldwork, research coordination and community engagement.
To be considered for this position, it is essential that you have:
- A degree in in Anthropology (Honours preferred) and significant experience in native title or applied research.
- Strong knowledge of the Native Title Act and relevant State and Commonwealth Aboriginal heritage legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to lead field research and work effectively with Aboriginal communities in culturally safe and respectful ways.
- Experience supervising and mentoring staff, including managing workloads and supporting development.
- High‑level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel regularly, including to remote locations.
- A current WA driver’s licence.
- A current National Police Clearance which is less than six months old
