The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our Sydney team.
In this role, you will take ownership of preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial, fitout and refurbishment projects. You’ll analyse tender documentation, review drawings and specifications, develop costings and manage subcontractor pricing to ensure Mettle submits high-quality tenders.
This is a hands-on estimating role with a clear pathway to grow into an Estimating Manager position within Mettle. You will work closely with project and delivery teams to ensure estimates are practical, commercially sound and aligned with Mettle’s standards, while building your leadership experience for future growth.
What You’ll Do
As a Senior Estimator, you will manage all aspects of the tendering and estimating process, ensuring accurate, competitive and compliant submissions. You will also:
- Understand client expectations and identify potential commercial risks and opportunities
- Prepare accurate take-offs and tender estimates that are clear and easy to review
- Identify risks and opportunities in design and tender documents, exploring alternative solutions
- Develop detailed direct cost estimates, overheads and schedules for tender submissions
- Review tender documents, including specifications, contracts and site conditions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
- Work collaboratively with the project delivery teams throughout the tender process
What You’ll Bring
You are an experienced estimating professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You will also bring:
- 5–10 years’ experience in estimating roles within commercial construction, fitout and refurbishment projects
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or similar
- Proven track record preparing winning tenders
- Experience across Education, Retail, Health, Aged Care and Industrial sectors
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, trade packages and costings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CostX estimating software
- Excellent attention to detail, organisation and time management skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with stakeholders at all levels
- Proactive and solution-focused mindset
