About the role

We are currently seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer for Open Cut and/or Underground projects to join a high-performing consultancy, where your expertise will shape critical geotechnical decisions across diverse mining projects. Reporting to the Manager of Studies and Business Development, you will deliver innovative geotechnical solutions for our clients, working on varied projects spanning open cut and underground operations, and leaving a real impact on the safety, efficiency, and success of mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex geotechnical assessments, slope design, and ground support recommendations.
  • Oversee and interpret site investigations and geotechnical data.
  • Contribute geotechnical input into short- and long-term mine planning and scheduling.
  • Deliver high-quality reports, reviews, and audits to clients.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and team capability.
  • Manage client relationships, proposals, and project delivery (scope, budget, timelines).
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, preparing proposals and technical scopes.

About you

  • At least 15 years design and site operational experience in a geotechnical engineering role within the resource sector.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • RPEQ and AusIMM (CP) preferred.
  • Proven expertise in geotechnical and numerical modelling, including structural and kinematic analysis (DIPS), slope stability modelling (Slide2/Slide3), and 3D geological modelling (Leapfrog Geo).
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems and lead technical outcomes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and technical report writing skills.
  • Preferably both Open Pit and Underground experienced, with various mining methods, backfill and geotechnical conditions.
