The Position

An exciting opportunity has developed for a Lawyer with 4-6 years’ post admission experience in Wills and Estate Planning to join our successful and growing team. With a fast-growing division, with no shortage of work, the position offers enormous potential for personal and professional growth, and access to an abundance of support and expertise available within our organisation and leading commercial litigation team.

We offer work as a ‘whole project’ approach, providing expert services from inception to delivery and completion. The position is based in our stunning Parramatta office which boasts glass walls allowing ample natural light, impressive board, and meetings rooms, lots of break out spaces, open plan seating and ad hoc hybrid working arrangements.

Duties and responsibilities

The role involves working alongside and reporting to a dedicated Director, of considerable skill, You will undertake a variety of legal work, predominantly:

1. Responsible for the day-to-day conduct of files in the Wills and Estate Planning division;

2. Taking initial and ongoing instructions from clients;

3. Drafting advices, correspondence and all general Wills and Estate Planning documents;

4. Advocacy and preparation of court matters (if need be);

6. Attendance at client meetings, file related meetings, business development meetings, exchanges, settlements, and liaising with client’s consultants, solicitors, conveyancers, banks and other third parties;

12. Management and responsibility for professional fees and disbursements in relation to files;

13. Mentoring, training, supervising and motivation of solicitors, graduates, support staff and interns;

14. Assist with work overflow as directed by Wills and Estate Planning Divisional Leader and/or Director, as and when required;

15. Comply with client service requirement of 24-hour turn-around and Quality Control Manual Procedures;

16. Drafting, reviewing and provide all assistance required with respect to compiling the Wills and Estate Planning precedents;

18. Marketing the Practice and Business Development.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

1. A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree and hold a current practising certificate;

2. A minimum of 4-6 years’ PQE working as a legal practitioner in Wills & Estate including but not limited to:

a. Will drafting;

b. Testamentary trusts;

c. Personal and business succession planning;

d. Powers of attorney;

e. Enduring guardianship;

f. Advanced care directives / medical treatment decision makers;

g. Superannuation advice and binding death nominations;

h. Consideration of other trust structures;

i. Tax implications;

j. Estate administration and distribution;

k. Will disputes / family provision claims; and

l. Dealing with consequences of intestacy.

3. Ability to:

  • represent the firm favourably and meet with clients to discussion complex issues;
  • use your research and analysis skills with an ability to apply critical thinking;
  • possess dedication to providing excellence in client services;
  • draft excellent written and verbal communication skills with a flexible approach;
  • be self-managed and be self-motivated (work autonomously).
