WHO ARE WE?

Lighthouse Foundation provides homes and therapeutic care programs to children and young people impacted by long-term neglect, abuse, and homelessness. Our focus is to create caring communities where kids can feel safe, form meaningful relationships, and begin to heal from traumatic experiences. For the past 30 years, our proven Model of Care has successfully transformed the lives of over 1,000 young people using a range of evidence-based strategies. We now educate and support Foster Carers in the same way, so that they too can take care of some of Australia’s most vulnerable children.

HOW WILL I HELP?

Ensuring high quality care for young people is our primary focus. The Senior Therapeutic Carer is responsible for oversight of the daily care provided within the Therapeutic Residential Home. Working closely with the Therapeutic Team Leader, you will ensure a warm and safe home environment for young people under our care. You will role model a relationship-based care, supporting Therapeutic Carers to ensure adherence to key program and compliance requirements, inclusive of planning and care of the young people, provision of oversight in the home and delegation of responsibilities.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL?

First and foremost, interpersonal skills are a must, with a level of maturity and understanding needed when working with those who use and support our services.

From a professional standpoint you will require;

  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of care or case work with young people
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary and collaborative team to service planning and program implementation
  • Commitment to professional and personal development and its role in service delivery
  • Commitment to reflecting on your work through group and individual clinical spaces
  • Ability to plan, prioritise workloads and meet deadlines as required
  • Experience with conflict resolution and mediation
  • Ability to stay calm and rational in volatile situations
  • Ability to work with young people, and knowledge of the special needs of homeless and at-risk young people and their infants.
  • Understanding of issues related to youth work and youth homelessness
  • Demonstrated experience in providing supervision to staff
  • Demonstrated experience in assessing suicide/self-harm risks and strategies to manage same
  • Clinical response skills to youth-based crisis situations including practical and psychiatric emergencies
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in working with statutory clients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Other key skills which would be desirable;

  • Experience working in a therapeutic community
  • Experience working within a trauma informed practice
  • Prior knowledge of attachment and object relations theory
  • Demonstrated understanding of the needs of children/young people with a disability
  • Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety and awareness
  • Demonstrated experience working in Residential Care Setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural safety for children and young people from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds.
