About The Company
Legacy Packing (www.legacypackingaustralia.com) is part of the AC Foods group of companies and has been operating in Cobram since 2017.
Home of the enormously delicious SumoCitrus, and situated less than 3hrs from Melbourne, we specialise in the production and marketing of fresh citrus for domestic and export markets.
We’re launching a new fresh produce production line and are looking for hands‑on Production Grader Operators to work with advanced AI‑powered grading and packing technology.
We use TOMRA Foods LUCAi™ artificial intelligence system, a world‑leading computer vision platform that assesses fruit quality using cameras, sensors, and deep‑learning software.
If you enjoy working with machinery, technology, and food production – and want to build future‑focused skills – we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
This role is initially offered as a casual position for the 2026 citrus season and will commence in May for induction and training. Opportunities for ongoing or future seasonal work are available and can be discussed with the successful applicant.
As a Production Grader Operator, you will:
- Operate and monitor AI‑driven grading and packing equipment
- Work with computer screens, camera systems, and control panels
- Adjust machine and software settings to suit different fruit types
- Be energetic and responsive to changing situations on the production line
- Conduct daily start‑ups, routine checks, and basic fault‑finding
- Undertake maintenance, cleaning and sanitation activities
- Record production and quality data on computer systems
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and WHS procedures
- Work closely with production, quality, logistics and maintenance teams
- Assist with general production tasks as required
Full training will be provided on the technology and equipment.
This is a fast paced, physically active role that requires attention to detail and consistent monitoring of machinery and programs throughout each shift.
About the Technology
You’ll be working with TOMRA LUCAi™, an advanced grading system that:
- Uses high‑speed cameras to photograph every piece of fruit
- Applies AI and deep learning to assess quality and defects
- Analyses the whole fruit, not just single spots or pixels
- Allows operators to fine‑tune grading settings to meet quality standards
This is a practical role where the operator stays in control, supported by smart technology.
About You
We’re looking for people who:
- Enjoy hands‑on work with machinery or equipment
- Are comfortable using computers or keen to learn
- Are curious about technology, automation, or AI
- Have good attention to detail
- Can work in a fast‑paced team environment
- Take safety and quality seriously
- Have a positive attitude and respectful behaviours
- Have strong communication skills – you will be using a UHF radio, speaking in person and using text/email to communication with the team
- Want to be part of a diverse and supportive team
- Hold current Australian work rights – we are not offering sponsorship for this role.
Experience in FMCG or fresh food processing, manufacturing, machinery operation, electronics, or IT is an advantage – but not essential.
What’s in it for you?
We have a friendly team in a clean and neat facility that embraces diversity.
- We pay in accordance with the Horticulture Award, hourly rates are negotiable with experience
- Weekly rosters, weekly payroll and weekly superannuation contributions
- Monday to Friday rosters – some weekend work may be required to meet production requirements; limited overtime.
- Career and training opportunities in line with your goals
