Following a significant growth period and the appointment of five Design Managers, we are now seeking a final Design Manager to complete our team and play a key role in shaping the front-end design and planning outcomes of our upcoming projects.
About the Role
Reporting into the Development Team, this role is focused on leading the front-end design process across feasibility, DA, and planning approval stages.
You will take ownership of the design strategy from early concept through to Development Approval, ensuring projects are well-positioned from a planning, commercial, and design perspective before transitioning into delivery.
You will work closely with Development Managers, external and internal architects, and planning consultants to drive design outcomes that balance planning controls, market expectations, and project feasibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design process from feasibility through to Development Application submission and approval
- Manage and coordinate external architects, planners, and consultants to achieve optimal planning and design outcomes
- Drive design strategy in alignment with planning controls, site constraints, and commercial objectives
- Provide input into site due diligence, yield optimisation, and massing studies
- Oversee preparation and lodgement of Development Applications via the NSW Planning Portal
- Liaise with councils, planning authorities, and key stakeholders to facilitate approvals
- Chair design workshops and coordinate multidisciplinary consultant inputs during early design phases
- Ensure design intent aligns with Landmark’s brand, product positioning, and market expectations
- Identify planning risks and constraints early and provide practical, solution-focused recommendations
- Work closely with the delivery team to ensure a smooth transition from DA to detailed design and construction.
About You
You’ll bring strong technical knowledge, practical construction understanding, and the ability to lead consultant teams through complex approval and design processes. You’ll be confident in navigating the NSW Planning Portal and Design Practitioner compliance frameworks while maintaining a collaborative and solution-focused approach.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related discipline
- 10+ years’ experience in the construction industry, including 7+ in design management, project engineering, or client-side project management.
- Strong experience delivering projects through feasibility and DA phases
- Excellent understanding of NSW planning frameworks, LEPs, DCPs, and approval pathway
- Proven ability to manage external consultants and drive design outcomes
- Strong stakeholder engagement experience with councils and planning authorities
- Commercial awareness with the ability to balance design, planning, and feasibility outcomes
- Experience in Class 2 residential developments is highly regarded
