ABOUT THE JOB 

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Field Application Scientist (FAS) based in Mainland China to support our rapidly growing customer base and distributor network in China and the broader APAC region.

In this role, you will act as a technical expert for LC-MS-based proteomics workflows using IonOpticks products. Approximately 40% of your time will be dedicated to pre-sales activities (seminars, leads identification/qualification, demonstrations, evaluations, method discussions and joint customer visits with distributors), and 60% to post-sales activities (onboarding, training, troubleshooting and optimisation).

The ideal candidate is fluent in Mandarin and English, has strong hands-on experience with LC-MS proteomics (sample prep, LC, MS acquisition and data analysis), and feels comfortable engaging with both scientists and commercial teams. You will work closely with our global Sales, Support, R&D and Marketing teams to ensure customers in China and APAC achieve outstanding results with IonOpticks products.

This role is embedded in the sales team whilst maintaining strong ties with the R&D and Customer Support divisions of the company. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES 

Customer and Distributor Support (China & APAC)

•        Serve as the primary technical point of contact for IonOpticks customers and distributors in China, with additional support for key accounts across APAC

•        Provide pre-sales support (≈40%) including

•        Technical seminars and workshops (on-site and online) in Mandarin and English

•        Method and workflow discussions tailored to customer needs

•        Planning and execution of product evaluations and demonstrations

•        Joint customer visits with APACI distributor manager and distributors

•        Provide post-sales support (≈60%) including

•        Onboarding and training new customers on best-practice use of IonOpticks’ products

•        Troubleshooting and optimisation of LC-MS workflows to ensure robust performance

•        Ongoing technical support via email, online meetings and local platforms as appropriate

•        Enable and upskill distributors by delivering technical training, coaching and joint visits, helping them to independently support routine customer questions

Technical Expertise and Application Development

•        Act as a subject matter expert on LC-MS proteomics workflows (sample preparation, LC configuration, MS acquisition strategies, data quality considerations)

•        Work with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and strategic labs in China/APAC to co-develop and refine workflows that showcase IonOpticks performance in real-world applications

•        Support the creation of application notes, case studies and best-practice documents based on work with customers in the region

•        Provide structured feedback to R&D and Product Management on product performance, unmet needs and feature requests from the field

Collaboration with Sales, Marketing and Support

•        Partner with APACI distributor manager to:

•        Identify and prioritise high-value opportunities and accounts

•        Build technical strategies to win key evaluations and expand usage within existing accounts

•        Collaborate with Marketing to:

•        Localise and adapt technical materials, presentations and case studies for the Chinese market

•        Contribute to content for regional campaigns, webinars and local digital channels (e.g. suitable use of local social media platforms, where appropriate)

•        Work with the global Support/Customer Success teams to

•        Ensure timely, high-quality responses to customer issues from China/APAC

•        Help define and improve support processes, documentation and internal knowledge sharing

Events, Conferences and Training

•        Represent IonOpticks at conferences, trade shows and user meetings in China and APAC, delivering scientific presentations and supporting the sales team on site

•        Organise and run user events, workshops and training sessions in collaboration with local distributors and global Marketing

•        Contribute to internal training of colleagues (sales, support, operations) on technical topics, market trends and competitor offerings relevant to the region

Systems, Reporting and Quality

•        Maintain accurate and timely records of customer interactions, opportunities, evaluations and issues in the company’s CRM and support systems

•        Provide structured feedback and reports on activities, trends and competitive intelligence in China/APAC

•        Adhere to IonOpticks’ quality management system, standard operating procedures and relevant regulatory or compliance requirements

 SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED 

•        Proven track record in customer-facing role supporting scientists

•        Deep, practical understanding of LC‑MS based proteomic workflows

•        Expertise in building long-term customer relationships, fostering trust, and delivering tailored solutions

•        Collaborative experience with sales, applications specialists, product development marketing, and support teams

•        Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are vital, alongside introducing new developments to new audiences

•        Strong Problem-solving skills

•        Self-motivated, proactive, and ability to effectively work independently and collaboratively

•        High ethical standards and adherence to company policies are mandatory

•        Fluent spoken and written Mandarin and professional English

•        Masters degree or higher in LC-MS based proteomics or similar

WORK LOCATIONS & TRAVEL 

•        This is a remote role based in Mainland China with flexible work arrangements

•        The Field Application Scientist is expected to travel up to 50% of the time within China for customer visits, distributor meetings, trainings, user events and conferences

•        Occasional travel to other APAC countries may be required to support regional initiatives

•        Periodic international travel is expected (e.g. to company headquarters in Australia and to key global conferences or internal meetings)
