Job Title: Occupational Therapy (OT) Therapy Assistant

Reports To: Occupational Therapist / Allied Health Manager

Location: Malaga

Position Summary: The OT Therapy Assistant supports the delivery of occupational therapy services under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist. The role involves assisting clients to develop, maintain, or regain skills required for daily living, independence, and community participation. The assistant provides hands-on support, implements therapy programs, and contributes to the achievement of individual client goals.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Client Support & Therapy Implementation:

• Assist clients in performing therapy activities and exercises as directed by the Occupational Therapist.

• Support clients to achieve individualised goals, focusing on functional independence, participation, and skill development.

• Encourage client engagement, motivation, and confidence during therapy sessions.

2. Program Delivery:

• Implement therapy programs, including exercises, adaptive strategies, and use of assistive equipment.

• Provide sensory, cognitive, or motor support activities as prescribed.

• Monitor and report client progress and responses to interventions.

3. Documentation & Reporting:

• Maintain accurate client records, session notes, and progress reports.

• Report changes in client condition, concerns, or incidents to supervising OT promptly.

4. Equipment & Environment Management:

• Assist in the setup and maintenance of therapy equipment and therapy spaces.

• Ensure the safety and cleanliness of equipment and therapy environments.

5. Collaboration & Communication:

• Work collaboratively with occupational therapists, allied health staff, families, and caregivers.

• Provide feedback and observations to inform therapy planning.

• Communicate effectively and respectfully with clients and team members.

6. Professional Development:

• Attend training, supervision, and team meetings as required.

• Stay updated on best practices in occupational therapy support.

Qualifications & Experience: – Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance, or equivalent. – Experience in disability, aged care, or health settings is desirable. – Understanding of occupational therapy principles and rehabilitation techniques. – Current First Aid and CPR certification. – Valid Working With Children Check (if applicable).

Key Relationships: – Internal: Occupational Therapists, Allied Health Team, Care Staff, Management. – External: Clients, families, caregivers, community partners.

Work Health & Safety: – Follow organisational WHS policies and procedures. – Ensure client safety and minimise risks during therapy sessions. – Report any hazards, incidents, or concerns promptly.

Performance Measures: – Effective and safe implementation of therapy programs. – Positive feedback from supervising OT, clients, and families. – Accurate and timely documentation. – Contribution to team collaboration and client goal achievement.
