Brief
The Playgroup Support Worker – Family Services plays a vital role in delivering inclusive, community-based programs that foster family wellbeing, early childhood development, and social inclusion.
This position supports the planning and facilitation of playgroup sessions and related family services activities, helping ensure a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for all participants.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a warm, energetic outgoing individual to join our team. Someone who is passionate about early childhood development with children aged 0-5, who can create a stimulating
environment through play, craft planning and prep, story time and singing and imaginative play.

– The ideal candidate will need to be able to plan a day of craft and sensory each week over the ten-week term. Extra hours required to cover sick leave etc.
Responsibilities & Duties
– Support and facilitate weekly playgroup sessions in collaboration with the Family Services team.
– Promote inclusive, person-centred opportunities for families and children to build social and recreational skills.
– Actively engage with parents and children to foster participation and community connection.
– Ensure the physical and emotional safety and wellbeing of all playgroup participants.
– Respond appropriately to any concerns about a child’s or parent’s wellbeing, escalating to the Team Leader as needed.
– Assist in the planning and development of play-based learning activities aligned with participants’ interests and needs.
– Ensure all equipment is cleaned, sanitised, and stored safely after each session.
– Maintain accurate records of attendance and handle customer payments where required.
– Provide up-to-date information, advice, and referrals to participants about Holdsworth’s services and programs.
– Work independently when required, while also contributing positively to a team-based environment.
– Supervise and mentor volunteers and student placements involved in playgroup delivery.
– Attend team meetings and contribute to program planning and reviews.
– Represent Holdsworth in a positive manner at events and in the community.
– Report incidents, concerns, or hazards to management in a timely and appropriate manner.
– Support communication and promotion efforts for family services programs as needed.
– Support engagement and evaluation efforts, such as assisting with surveys, informal interviews or collecting family feedback as directed by the Family Services team.
– Assist with the delivery of Holdsworth events, including preparation, set-up, participation on the day and pack-down.
– Comply with Holdsworth policies, procedures, and WHS obligations at all times.
Experience
At least 2–3 years’ experience in a similar community services or early childhood support role, ideally in a not-for-profit or council-funded setting.
Qualifications & Certifications
– Certificate III or IV in Community Services, Early Childhood Education, or related field (or working towards) (desirable)
– Current Working with Children Check (NSW)
– First Aid Certificate (including CPR)
– National Police Check
– NSW Driver’s Licence (desirable)
Performance Indicators
– Development and delivery of a quarterly playgroup activity plan aligned with family feedback and developmental goals.
– 90% Positive feedback from families, volunteers, and team members about the program and support provided.
– Demonstrated contribution to the achievement of program outcomes and continuous improvement.
– Accurate and timely reporting of attendance, incidents, and administrative tasks.
– Cleanliness and readiness of playgroup materials and environment each session.
– Effective supervision and engagement of volunteers and student placements.
– Evidence of responsive, person-centred service delivery.
– Participation in professional development and staff meetings.
– Timely and respectful support of family engagement initiatives, such as surveys and informal feedback collection, contributing to program evaluation and planning.
– Positive contribution to the successful delivery of Holdsworth events, including feedback from team members and community participants.
– 100% adherence to Holdsworth’s policies, procedures, and WHS requirements.
