Design Lead

The Opportunity_

We are seeking a motivated and talented Design Lead who will be responsible for delivering high-quality schematic designs for architectural projects including external renders and building layouts; developing a clear understanding of client requirements; and ensuring the successful completion of project designs that meet or exceed client expectations.

Key Responsibilities_ 

  • Liaison with the client for architectural design scope
  • Designing and documentation of architectural designs of a high standard in line with Hillam Architects and specific project aspirations, delivered on time and on budget.
  • Preparation and delivery of briefs, sketches, BIM modelling and drawings, verbal/written and graphic presentations, schedules, specifications, reports and opinion of costs.
  • Design management including assisting project leader in planning, monitoring and reviewing.
  • Reporting on brief, scope, programme, budget, delivery progress and invoicing.
  • Design management including managing architectural design project performance.
  • Implementing an architectural design project plan including design deliverables.
  • Project control in compliance with company processes, policies, and quality requirements.

Skills and Experience_

  • Tertiary qualification in Architecture (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years postgraduate experience.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: multi-residential, hotel, student accommodation, build-to-rent, townhouses, carbon-neutral and highly rated energy buildings, commercial, or fit-out projects.
  • Multi-residential experience an advantage.
  • Client facing and presentation experience.
  • Front end, schematic design experience.
  • Briefing, design, presentation, communication, BIM implementation, review, delegation and motivation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, builders, authorities and other project or practice stakeholders.  
  • Ability to assess time requirements and drive projects to completion within project budgets and milestones.
  • Strong skills in Revit plus the Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Task and time measurement and management skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
