Role Overview:

As a Retail Assistant Bottle Shop at Johnson Cellars, you’ll be the face of our independent liquor retail business—helping customers find the right products while ensuring the responsible service of alcohol.

This casual role is ideal for someone who is friendly, reliable and customer-focused and who enjoys working in a fast-paced retail environment. You’ll be assisting with sales, merchandising, stock handling, and daily operations under the guidance of the Bottle Shop Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service by assisting with product selection and inquiries.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system for sales transactions, refunds, and gift card/ vouchers processing.
  • Ensure responsible service of alcohol (RSA) compliance, including age verification and refusal of service when necessary.
  • Maintain store cleanliness and presentation, including restocking shelves and rotating stock to ensure freshness.
  • Assist in setting up promotional displays and signage as directed.
  • Handle cash and EFTPOS transactions accurately and securely.
  • Report any incidents, customer feedback, or maintenance issues to the manager promptly.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including health and safety regulations.

Skills & Qualifications Required:

  • Current Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.
  • Previous retail or hospitality experience preferred but not essential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Physical ability to lift and move stock up to 15kg.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the workplace.

Desirable:

  • Interest or knowledge in wines, beers, and spirits.
  • Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer skills.
  • Team-oriented with a proactive attitude.
