THE ROLE

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to join our team. You will be responsible for overseeing and assisting where necessary all aspects of the payroll function and processes, managing and mentoring the payroll team ensuring compliance across the department. We currently run a complex weekly payroll for 13 companies, paying over 500 people using 10 industrial instruments. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and knowledge of managing a payroll team, thorough understanding of related legislation and regulations, excellent attention to detail, and strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Oversee all aspects of the payroll process, including processing of employee salaries, wages, allowances and Award entitlements
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant payroll, superannuation and Return to Work legislation and regulations
  • Develop and implement payroll policies and procedures and ensure currency of payroll practices with changing legislation
  • Manage and mentor the Payroll team
  • Coach managers in payroll best practice procedures and the use of the payroll system
  • Respond to payroll enquiries from employees, managers and external auditors
  • Reconcile payroll data
  • Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and other payroll-related reports and information (e.g. RTWSA, Superannuation)
  • Prepare Payroll reports as required for management, accountants and external auditors
  • Work collaboratively with the People & Culture department to ensure seamless integration between payroll and P&C functions

QUALIFICATIONS | EXPERIENCE | CAPABILITIES

  • Diploma of Payroll Management or relevant qualification (preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Payroll Manager
  • Strong, current knowledge of relevant legislation, modern awards and the NES
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll software such as Employment Hero
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
