Katandra Station is a key backgrounding and transit depot within the Cunningham portfolio, running approximately 12,000 head on-station and agistment properties, and receiving 10,000–12,000 head.
We are currently seeking an experienced Leading Hand to support station leadership and operations.
About the Role
The Leading Hand plays a key role in the day-to-day success of the property, combining hands-on operational work with leadership responsibility. Working alongside the Property Manager, you will help coordinate livestock programs, support station operations, and guide the team to deliver high standards of performance. When required, you will step into a leadership role, confidently managing and motivating the team in the Property Manager’s absence.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out cattle husbandry including mustering, drafting, processing and trucking
- Daily monitoring of stock welfare, pasture condition and water points
- Operate and maintain station machinery, vehicles and plant
- Complete bore runs and maintain turkey nests, troughs, pipelines and pumps
- Perform fencing, building and general station maintenance
- Maintain accurate records for livestock, water, maintenance and operations
- Act as a positive role model for safety, teamwork and professionalism
Leadership & Coordination
- Lead station crew during mustering and day-to-day operations
- Train, guide and support staff in cattle handling and safe work practices
- Assist with livestock programs, supplementation strategies and grazing rotations
- Report on livestock condition, pasture performance and operational progress
- Coordinate toolbox talks and support WHS compliance
- Assist with planning, maintenance schedules and asset management
What You’ll Bring

- Strong cattle handling skills and understanding of beef production systems
- Proven ability to lead, train and motivate a team
- Confident decision-maker with strong time management skills
- Clear communicator, able to liaise effectively with crew and management
