THE ROLE
We are currently looking for energetic team players to support our site at Hume on a casual basis. As a Casual Yard Hand you will be assigned to work as an operator at either of our different departments – waste receival, protein production, insect farming or yard duties and support where needed based on workload, time critical pieces of work and back up shifts for leave takers.
You will receive job specific training across several departments and hence a willingness to learn and develop will be critical to your success in the role.
MAIN DUTIES
Yard duties:
- Maintain site cleanliness – remove any debris or material that is being disposed off
- Ensure correct storing of bins and equipment and material – keeping everything in its place and ensure other employees follow directives given
- Cleaning of pallet bins with pressure cleaner
- Collaborate with drivers and support them with loading and unloading of material – directing them where to unload and manage movements on the yard to ensure safety for all site employees
MIB Service:
- Supporting MIB Service technicians with biological service
- Removing material contaminants and blockages as needed.
- Managing the input of organic waste into the waste management system, including sorting and removing material contaminants.
- Support the Service Technician with monitoring, servicing, and capturing data related to the breakdown of material and quality of the product.
Protein Processing:
- Production and processing of insect by-products in order to produce a high quality customer product
- Operate machinery and equipment involved in the production of Goterra by-products
- Packing and shipping of Goterra products and samples to customer orders
- Following stock control and management of stock to ensure quality of product and accuracy of volume
- Adherence to daily maintenance and hygiene tasks procedures
Waste Processing:
- Manual handling of solid and liquid organic (food) waste material
- Manually removing contaminants from the waste stream e.g. glass, soft plastics and metal
- Sorting and separating general waste, recycling and organic waste into individual piles and recording the information into the company digital database (MagOps)
- Managing the processing of waste from receival through depackaging, maceration and delivery to MIB storage units
- Ensure that cleaning procedures are followed and carried out daily, whilst using initiative to manage out of scope failures resulting from waste spillages
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience from working at a multipurpose site (advantageous)
- Availability to work both weekdays and weekends when needed
- Strong at prioritisation of tasks
- Good communication skills
- Pro-active mindset with the ability to act on tasks when there is no supervision
- Physically fit with the ability to stand for long periods and lifting of objects up to 20kg
- Comfortable working with organic food waste and living larvae
- A safety-first mindset.
- High attention to detail and pride in maintaining site cleanliness and standards.
- Current Driver’s Licence and reliable transport..
