Description

THE COMPANY

At Goterra, we believe climate change is the crisis of our time. We exist to help solve it. We’re re-imagining a future where nature and automation work in tandem to solve complex problems like reducing food waste and securing our food supply chain.

We are the change we want to see in the world. We strive and push as hard as we can for our economy and environment to reap the benefits of our dedicated research, relentless testing and state-of-the-art automated robotic infrastructure.

We process food waste using insects and turn this into by-products such as animal protein and high grade fertilizer. And we do this, onsite, in modular, mobile insect farms. We’re fast moving, agile and collaborative and we work relentlessly to make the world better, Billions of Tonnes Better.

THE ROLE

As part of our Wetherill Park team, you’ll be right at the heart of what we do. You’ll help manage and process incoming food waste and support the daily operations that keep our site running smoothly.

You won’t be stuck behind a desk. You’ll be working as part of a close‑knit team, doing meaningful, practical work that helps reduce waste and protect the planet.

You’ll also help to support our biological operations, including working with live insects (larvae). Full training is provided, and many of our team members had never worked with insects before joining Goterra.

Important to know: this role involves working with food waste and live larvae. If that doesn’t scare you (or even better, you’re curious), you’ll fit right in!

.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

No two days are exactly the same, but your work will include:

  • Handling solid and liquid organic (food) waste
  • Removing contaminants like plastic, glass and metal from the waste stream
  • Sorting general waste, recycling and organic waste into the correct areas
  • Recording waste data in our digital system.
  • Processing waste from receival through de-packing, maceration and storage
  • Operating machinery such as bobcats, conveyors and de-packaging machines (training and licences provided where required)
  • Cleaning and maintaining work areas, equipment and the waste yard to a high standard
  • Recording inputs and outputs at the end of each shift
  • Supporting the biological services, including handling live larvae before and after growth cycles
  • Harvesting larvae and separating by-products

Basically, you’ll help turn food waste into something useful – and that’s pretty cool.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

You don’t need to tick every box, we can train the right person. What matters most is attitude.

  • Experience in a production, manufacturing or waste environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience operating machinery like a bobcat or forklift (a bonus)
  • A valid driver’s licence and/or reliable transport
  • Ability to handle physical work (lifting up to 20kg, standing for long periods)
  • Comfortable working with food waste and live larvae
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to follow processes
  • Accountability for your work and doing the right thing
  • A team player who’s keen to learn and help others
  • An interest in sustainability and doing something positive for the environment
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transport

WHY JOIN GOTERRA?

  • Be part of a mission‑driven company tackling climate change head‑on
  • Strong focus on upskilling: forklift licences, machinery tickets, certifications and on‑the‑job training
  • Real career progression – many of our leaders and specialists started in hands‑on roles just like this one
  • If you show up, work hard and take pride in what you do, there’s genuine opportunity to grow into senior operator, technician, team lead or other specialised roles
  • Supportive team environment where effort is noticed and ideas are welcome
  • Entry‑level friendly – we value attitude, reliability and willingness to learn just as much as experience
