Head of Farmland Performance and Operations

Melbourne Farm Hub • Cremorne, Victoria 3121, Australia • Full-time

Description

About us:

GO.FARM is an Australian-owned agricultural investor, developer and manager with a clear purpose: to transform Australian agriculture. We create investment-grade agricultural assets aligned with global demand for healthy, nutritious food, guided by our Responsible Agriculture Framework.

We’re growing fast – from 154 to 400+ people – and culture travels with the leaders we hire. That’s why this hire matters.

This isn’t a management role. It’s a transformation role.

GO.FARM is building something different in Australian agriculture – farms that are productive and purposeful, assets that are transformed and better than we found them, and teams that grow as fast as the crops they tend.

The Head of Farmland Performance and Operations sits at the heart of that ambition. You will lead the people, systems and standards that determine how our farms actually perform – not just this season, but for decades to come.

If you’re the kind of leader who walks paddocks with the same urgency you bring to a boardroom, who is just as focused on building the bench as driving the yield, we’d like to talk.

About the role:

You will own the performance of GO.FARM’s mature farmland portfolio, leading regional operations teams to deliver strong productivity, safety, stewardship and cost outcomes while ensuring our assets transition seamlessly from development into full operational performance.

Working alongside the Senior Leadership Team, you will build the operating systems, data platforms and leadership capability that allow GO.FARM to scale without losing the things that make it GO.FARM.

What you will actually be doing:

  • Leading people who lead farms. You’ll lead and develop General Managers and Farm Managers across regional operations, building their capability, holding high standards, and making sure the teams under them know exactly what a GO.FARM farm looks like.
  • Driving performance across the portfolio. Productivity, efficiency, cost and safety. You’ll set the standard and hold it. Not at launch. Not at crisis. Throughout.
  • Embedding the systems that scale. AgTech, data platforms, operating frameworks. You’ll lead their adoption so that good judgement becomes a shared norm, not an individual trait.
  • Being the bridge. Partner with Finance, Investments and the Senior Leadership Team to manage asset performance and budgets, and support assets as they move from development into their operational stride.

About you:

You are an experienced agricultural leader who has done this work at scale and has the scars and the stories to show for it. You don’t just understand operations, you understand people, and you know the difference between a team that performs because they’re managed and a team that performs because they’re led.

You’re comfortable on-farm and in the boardroom, but you probably prefer the paddock. You bring commercial discipline without losing sight of the long game – soil health, community, people – and you’ve never believed those things are in conflict with financial performance.

Experience you will bring:

  • 10+ years in agriculture, with senior leadership depth
  • Multi-site operational leadership across a complex portfolio
  • Track record of building and developing high-performing teams
  • Confident use of operational data and performance reporting tools
  • Experience managing asset transitions – development into operations

Who you are:

  • You finish what you start. Half done is not in your vocabulary.
  • You don’t walk past problems that aren’t formally yours to fix.
  • You build people up, not dependencies.
  • You hold safety and stewardship as personal standards, not policies.
  • You’re direct, warm, and not too precious to laugh at yourself.

What success looks like

Asset performance matters. But the measure of this role, the real measure, is the quality of the regional leadership teams you build and leave behind you. If the farms run brilliantly when you’re not in the room, you’ve done your job.

Why work for GO.FARM:

We’re serious about building long-term careers in agriculture, not just filling roles. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  • We invest the equivalent of 5% of your salary in your learning and development each year
  • Flexible benefits: enhanced leave options and salary sacrifice
  • Leadership development programs designed specifically for agricultural careers
  • Wellbeing initiatives covering financial, physical and mental health
  • A culture that is genuinely trying to do agriculture differently
  • The chance to shape something at a critical moment in its growth
