Summary:
The Dentist is responsible for providing comprehensive oral health care services to patients, including preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dental care. They play a critical role in promoting good oral health hygiene practices, diagnosing and managing dental diseases and conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Examine patients’ teeth, gums, and surrounding tissues.
- Diagnose dental conditions and oral health problems, analyzing findings and recommending treatment options.
- Use dental equipment such as x-ray machines, drills, and instruments to administer treatments to patients.
- Perform preventive services like cleanings, fluoride treatments and sealants.
- Restore teeth affected by decay, trauma or other factors by filling cavities, repairing chips or cracks and performing root canals.
- Extract teeth that cannot be saved.
- Place dental implants as well as fitting crowns, bridges, and dentures.
- Offer cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening or Invisalign.
- Counsel patients about diet, oral hygiene, and other preventive dental care practices.
- Manage and coordinate patient care with other healthcare professionals such as orthodontists and oral surgeons.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
- State license to practice dentistry.
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well in a team and create a positive patient experience.
- Attention to detail and strong manual dexterity.
- Prior experience practicing dentistry is preferred.
