Join our dedicated Out of Home Care team as a Foster Care Field Worker (SCHADS Level 4) and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people. In this dynamic case management role, you will support foster carers, lead care team processes and advocate for safe, stable and culturally responsive placements.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.

 

Position Purpose

Koorie Kare (Foster Care) Field Workers provide ongoing support to children and young people in care, along with their Foster Carers. The worker plays an important role in ensuring the GEGAC carers they are working with have the resources and skills needed to provide quality care to the children (clients). The Koorie Kare field worker will be non-judgemental and have a commitment to best practice to ensure compliance with Victorian Statutory Out of Home Care Standards along with all other relevant regulations and frameworks.

 

Key Selection Criteria 

·         Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.

·         Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously to develop, implement & manage effective case plans for multiple children or young people simultaneously.

·         Demonstrated understanding of trauma & its impact on the development & behaviour of children.

·         Understanding of the complex care needs of children & young people living in Out of Home Care.

·         Knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.

·         Ability to prepare high-quality reports, maintain accurate records & use computer-based technologies for administrative practices.

·         Ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances & organisational requirements.

 

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

·         Valid Victorian driver’s licence    ESSENTIAL

·         Diploma of Community Services, Youth Services or similar    ESSENTIAL

·         A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level      DESIRABLE

·         Strong understanding of Child, Youth and Families Act 2015 and the Best Interest Principles Framework      ESSENTIAL

·         A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check    ESSENTIAL

·         A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background    DESIRABLE

·         Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements    ESSENTIAL
