Description

We are seeking an experienced and culturally grounded practitioner to join our team in strengthening kinship care arrangements for Aboriginal children and young people. In this role, you will coordinate and oversee kinship case contracting processes, support carers and families, and ensure children remain safe, stable and strongly connected to culture, community and Country. Working within a self-determined, community-led model of care, you will exercise sound professional judgement while maintaining compliance with legislative and funding requirements. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute to keeping Aboriginal children connected to family and culture, while supporting kinship carers to provide safe and nurturing homes.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

Position Purpose

The Kinship Case Contracted Worker provides ongoing support to children and young people in care with their Kinship Carers. We aim to ensure that our Carers have the resources and kills they need to provide quality care. The Kinship Case Contracted Worker will be non-judgemental & have a commitment to best practice to ensure compliance with the VIC Statutory Out of Home Care Standards.

Key Selection Criteria 

·         Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal Culture with the ability to liaise with and support the local community.

·         Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously to develop, implement & manage effective case plans for multiple children or young people simultaneously.

·         Demonstrated u8nderstanding of trauma & it’s impact on the development & behaviour of children.

·         Understanding of the complex care needs of children & young people living in Out of Home Care.

·         Knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005.

·         Ability to prepare high-quality reports, maintain accurate records & use computer-based technologies for administrative practices.

·         Ability to adapt rapidly to changing circumstances & organisational requirements.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

·         Valid Victorian driver’s licence    ESSENTIAL

·         Diploma of Community Services, Youth Services or similar    ESSENTIAL

·         A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Youth Work and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level    DISIRABLE

·         Strong understanding of Child, Youth and Families Act 2005 and the Best Interest Principles Framework    ESSENTIAL

·         A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check    ESSENTIAL

·         A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background    DESIRABLE

·         Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements    ESSENTIAL
