Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service providing holistic, culturally safe, and community‑driven care across Mt Isa, North West and the Lower Gulf regions. We are now seeking passionate and dedicated Support Workers to join our Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service (NRCWS).
NRCWS provides vital alcohol and other drug (AOD) recovery support, helping individuals and families strengthen wellbeing, rebuild connection, and return to the community with confidence.
About the Role
As a Support Worker, you will play an essential role in supporting participants on their healing journey. You will work as part of a committed team to provide day‑to‑day support, practical assistance, cultural safety, and a stable environment that empowers participants to build life skills and progress toward recovery goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily support to participants in line with centre policies and routines
- Facilitate transport to appointments, activities and community‑based tasks
- Supervise participants during outings or structured activities
- Complete daily shift handovers and maintain accurate documentation
- Monitor participant wellbeing, identifying and reporting any risks or issues
- Support practical life skills development, such as household tasks and routines
- Uphold centre safety, security and cultural protocols
- Assist with administrative or front‑counter duties as required
- Contribute to a safe, positive, and culturally respectful workplace
What We’re Looking For
- Ability to follow procedures, take direction, and work with initiative
- Understanding of (or willingness to learn about) AOD recovery in a residential setting
- Awareness of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and their importance
- Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Commitment to confidentiality, cultural safety and trauma‑informed practice
- No previous experience required — a strong work ethic and willingness to learn is highly valued
Practical Requirements
- Current QLD C Class Driver Licence
- Ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check
- Blue Card (or willingness to obtain)
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including travel and overnight stays in remote areas
- Willingness to travel by road and light aircraft when required
