ABOUT THE ROLE

As Geospatial Analyst, you work within the Data team to apply data science techniques through a geospatial lens to explore, analyse and model complex spatial datasets. You will collaborate with product, data and technical teams to generate insights, support evidence-based decisions, and improve the value and usability of Geoscape’s data products and services.

This role goes beyond traditional GIS analysis by combining geospatial domain knowledge with modern analytics practices to uncover patterns, build repeatable analytical workflows, and communicate clear findings to stakeholders.

KEY FOCUS AREAS

  • Spatial analytics and modelling to uncover patterns, trends, and opportunities in national-scale datasets.
  • Building reproducible analytical workflows (repeatable, documented, and ready to scale).
  • Translating complex geospatial analysis into clear insights and recommendations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Improving confidence in Geoscape data products by strengthening analytical quality, validation, and interpretability.

YOU’LL BRING

  • 2–5 years of combined experience in geospatial analysis and data/analytics, or tertiary qualifications in geospatial science, data science, statistics, computer science (or similar) with applied spatial work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to translate complex analysis into clear, practical insights.
  • Strong understanding of spatial data concepts including geometry validity, datums, coordinate systems, and spatial relationships.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with spatial databases (e.g., PostGIS / spatial SQL).
  • Proficiency in Python for analysis (data manipulation, visualisation, and geospatial processing).
  • Demonstrated ability to develop repeatable workflows (documented analysis, reproducibility, version control).
  • Strong collaboration skills with technical and commercial stakeholders, and a practical, outcome-focused approach.
  • A passion for staying up to date on industry trends and best practices in spatial analytics and geospatial data science.

It would be advantageous but not essential if you have experience with:

  • Remote sensing / imagery and derived products (acquisition, QA, transformation, feature extraction).
  • Spatio-temporal or predictive modelling techniques applied to real-world location problems.
  • Data visualisation and dashboarding to communicate analytical insights to stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Geoscape data products and/or national-scale foundational datasets.
  • Working with cloud or large-scale analytics environments (where relevant to the team’s ecosystem).
