About the role:

Support people with complex needs to live in Support Independent Living (SIL), so they can meaningfully complete their daily routines and activities both inside and outside of home. Actively support clients to identify, access and engage in community and social activities. Support the achievement of long-term goals and take on the duty of care for your client’s overall health and wellbeing.

What will I be doing?

Our support workers excel at providing Person Centred Active Support (PCAS).

During the course of a shift, you are likely to be undertaking all of the following activities:

  • Develop meaningful and professional relationships with each client and their family, understanding their unique needs, goals, and daily living activities.
  • Use positive behaviour support to support clients to achieve their daily routines and goal.
  • Provide a range level of physical support to clients including manual handling, lifting, bending, stretching and physical transfer.
  • Provide support with all aspects of personal care, mealtime management, medication and household duties, and other tasks as required.
  • Provide support with daily planning, advocacy, communication and transport as required by the people we support in home and community settings.

About You  

We’re looking for committed and empathetic individuals with proven experience supporting clients living with complex mental health and cognitive conditions. To be successful in this role, you must have hands on experience working with individuals diagnosed with Behaviours of Concern related to conditions such as:

  • Paranoid Schizophrenia
  • Borderline Personality Disorder
  • Intellectual Disability
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Dementia

Whether your background is in disability support, aged care or nursing, your ability to navigate challenging behaviours with patience and professionalism is essential.

Essential

  • Experience with high needs clients and behaviours of concern.
  • Have completed a minimum Certificate III Qualification in a relevant area such as Disability, Community Services, Mental Health or Aged Care. (individuals studying Health, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy will also be considered).
  • Current First Aid Certificate with CPR.
  • Current Victorian driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Satisfaction of all requirements for working in Australia.

Desirable

  • Disability, Management, Nursing or Allied Health related qualifications.
  • Experience working in a community, residential and/or rehabilitation environment.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation (such as the Disability Act 2006, or the Department of Health and Human Services’ ISO Standards).

Remuneration for this role is accordance with the SCHADS Home Care Level 3-4, depending on your qualifications and experience.
