Empirical Solutions is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer (Fortinet & Azure) to provide advanced technical expertise in the design, deployment, and sustainment of secure ICT infrastructure.
This role is ideal for a network engineer who thrives in complex, security-focused environments and can act as a trusted escalation point for technical issues across multiple technology stacks. You will play a key role in ensuring the availability, security, and performance of mission-critical systems across cloud and on-premise networks.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will:
- Serve as a senior escalation point for complex network and infrastructure issues
- Provide expert technical guidance across Fortinet and Azure ecosystems
- Design, deploy, and manage secure Fortinet SD-WAN and FortiGate firewall solutions
- Support integration and deployment of Fortinet Azure NVAs, FortiClient, FortiSASE, and FortiSandbox environments
- Contribute to the implementation of scalable, cloud-centric architectures in Microsoft Azure
- Develop and maintain detailed network and security documentation, including architecture diagrams and configuration records
- Analyse data flows and ensure secure cross-domain connectivity across network zones
- Provide technical assurance and troubleshooting support during deployment and operations
- Proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain network resilience and minimise downtime
- Mentor project and support teams on industry best practices in secure networking and infrastructure management

- Demonstrated experience in secure ICT network design, deployment, and support
- Proven technical expertise with:
- Azure Cloud Infrastructure
- FortiGate Firewalls
- Fortinet SD-WAN
- Fortinet Azure NVA deployments
- FortiClient, FortiSASE, and FortiSandbox
- Ability to map and analyse data movements across network zones and domains
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Visio for technical documentation and network diagramming
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- High attention to detail, with demonstrated capability in producing precise and compliant technical documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously under pressure
Qualifications & Certifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Network Engineering, or Cybersecurity
- Fortinet NSE certifications (NSE 4–7) or equivalent highly desirable
- Azure Network Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect certification desirable
- Relevant experience in secure, government, or enterprise ICT environments
- Baseline security clearance (minimum)
