We have got an exciting opportunity for Trainer and Assessor (Graduate Diploma of Engineering) to be part of our team at ECA college in our Sydney office.

Key Responsibilities:

This ECA College Trainer and Assessor is responsible for delivering face-to-face training and assessment for the Graduate Diploma of Engineering course based in Sydney campus (Ultimo). As a part-time position, this role involves conducting engaging and practical classes and completing marking and administrative tasks for 14 hours per week. The trainer is expected to uphold their responsibilities within a competency-based VET framework by undertaking the following tasks:

  • Understand the framework of Competency-based assessment, RTO standards, and training and assessment procedures.
  • Deliver Engineering units under Manufacturing and Engineering (MEM) with a strong focus on both theory and industry-relevant practical skills.
  • Support students in meeting learning outcomes, assessment deadlines, and achieving competency aligned and cooperate with the supervising trainer.
  • Deliver engaging training and encourage students to show their practical understanding of the task or questions by demonstrating it in a practical manner.
  • Ensure training and assessment resources remain relevant to current industry practices in the Engineering field.
  • Meet deadlines when marking assessments, finalising results within designated timeframe and provide sufficient, fair, and valid feedback.
  • Ensure the current competency level of the lectures and assessment materials by developing industry skills and knowledge, and willingness to participate in PD activities.
  • Monitor and report student progressions to the Academic Manager and Student Services and record attendance through attendance forms and in the system.
  • Focus on learning progression of students by providing continuous support to help them meet the assessment deadlines and gain full competency in a timely manner.
  • Map out and modify the resources available for training according to relevant and current industry and report to the LMS and Academic team to update.
  • Participate in post-validation program per term to support the Course Leads.
  • Support the Academic Manager in fulfilling practical tasks, training and assessment tools modification and other assessment competency expectations.
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of Student Management (RTO Manager) and Learning Management Systems (OpenLearning) , along with a proactive approach to participating in inductions, training, and team meetings.
  • Collaborate and communicate actively and constantly with the Academic Manager on the assigned tasks.
  • Hold the right qualifications to train and assess Graduate Diploma of Engineering.

As the successful candidate must have:

  • A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40122) is mandatory.
  • Engineering degrees background preferably in:
  • o System Engineering

  • o Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil Engineering

  • o Sustainability Engineering

  • o Manufacturing Engineering

  • o Environmental Engineering

  • Substantial experience as an engineer, senior technician, technical officer, leading hand or experienced tradesperson in an engineering environment.
  • Experience in engineering design, development, project management or operations management activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills. Effective communication of complex technical information, both orally and in writing, across all engineering disciplines.
  • Additional skills in: o Project Management Professional (PMP) and Sustainability o Lean Six Sigma certification o Familiarity with software like MATLAB, AutoCAD, or specific simulation tool
  • Subject matter knowledge & knowledge of VET Sector.
  • Right to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident/citizen or holding a valid visa.
  • Ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team with effective interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
