Based in Northam, WA

Contract until 31 March 2028

Part time – 30.4 hours per week

Salary per annum $66,548 per annum (pro rata) ($42.90 per hour)

About the Role

Are you happiest with your boots on the ground, clipboard in hand, and soil under your nails? We’re looking for a scientifically curious and practically minded Soil Field Officer to help deliver the National Soil Monitoring Program. Based in Northam with travel across the Wheatbelt, this hands-on role suits someone who loves land, data, and getting stuck into meaningful environmental work.

You’ll join our Sustainable Agriculture team and get to work sampling soils, collecting field data, and engaging with local landholders across our region. This is a physically active role with a strong safety culture. We value people who take initiative, work independently in remote settings, and bring a collaborative spirit back to the team.

Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management is a non-profit organisation working in partnership with community, biodiversity, agriculture and government to provide regional leadership and direction for sustainable land use and the conservation of natural resources in the Avon River Basin of Western Australia. Selection Criteria

Please address the following criteria in a cover letter:

Technical Skills

  • Tertiary degree in agriculture with soils units, OR equivalent soil-specific training
  • Able to perform manual tasks as part of fieldwork
  • Current WA Driver’s Licence

Project Management Skills

  • Experience monitoring project tasks, timelines and deliverables
  • Can manage resources to keep things running smoothly

Self-Management

  • Able to meet deadlines without constant supervision
  • Takes responsibility and asks questions when unsure

Communication

  • Clear, respectful communication with both colleagues and stakeholders

Teamwork

  • A team player who contributes to a supportive, productive work culture

Wheatbelt Natural Resource Management is an independent, community-based organisation that provides leadership in the management of natural resources of the Avon River Basin of WA. We aim for the sustainable use and enjoyment of the unique natural resources of the Wheatbelt.
