About the Role

The Brief Intervention Eating Disorder Practitioner provides brief intervention, care navigation and group services to people with a range of eating disorders.

The practitioner must also work within the Vision and Mission of Eating Disorders Queensland (EDQ) and contribute to organisational objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tertiary Qualification: A degree, or working towards a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling with specific training and experience in eating disorders is highly regarded but not mandatory.
  2. Transferrable Skills in Eating Disorders: Ability to apply current skills to support individuals with eating disorders effectively.
  3. Personal Recovery (If Applicable): Minimum of two years of stable recovery from an eating disorder, if relevant.
  4. Practice Framework Articulation: Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate and apply a personal practice framework in clinical settings.
  5. Initial Contact and Assessments: Confidence and proficiency in conducting initial contact, intake, and assessments.
  6. Client Management: Experience in managing client allocations based on triage and screening outcomes, in collaboration with team coordinators.
  7. Brief Interventions/Counselling Experience: Proven ability to provide brief interventions, with an understanding of eating disorders and co-occurring issues like mental health and substance use in adult, youth, and family contexts.
  8. Care Navigation and Waitlist Management: Experience in care navigation and assisting clients through the recovery process, including waitlist management to ensure timely service delivery.
  9. Understanding of Evidence-Based Interventions: Knowledge of and experience with psychological interventions, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), is highly recommended.
  10. Group Facilitation and Psychoeducation Programs: Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups and developing/delivering psychoeducation programs.
  11. Client Management Systems: Competence in using multiple client management systems, such as Csnet, rediCASE, and Cliniko.
  12. Caseload and KPI Management: Ability to manage a balanced caseload, meeting KPIs while handling individual and group work.
  13. Interpersonal and Engagement Skills: Strong interpersonal, emotional intelligence, and engagement skills, particularly in working with individuals affected by eating disorders.
  14. State-Wide Service Delivery: Willingness to support innovative state-wide service delivery, with some interstate travel required.

Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to the bITE Team Leader.

Supervise students and volunteers in line with university requirements and assigned projects.

Funding:

All positions offered by EDQ are conditional on recurrent funding from the Qld Government.

Therefore, EDQ offers fixed-term contracts that are in line with funding timelines.

Key Selection Criteria:

In your application, respond to the selection criteria (demonstrate how skills are transferable into working with eating disorders)

  1. A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or Counselling with training and experience in eating disorders is highly valued but optional.
  2. Be in stable recovery for a minimum of two years from an eating disorder (if applicable).
  3. Be able to articulate and demonstrate their practice framework.
  4. Demonstrated experience in brief interventions/counselling, with an understanding of the impact of eating disorders in brief intervention work with adults, young people, and families and co-occurring presentations such as mental health and drug and alcohol concerns.
  5. Understanding evidence-based psychological interventions, e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is highly recommended.
  6. Demonstrated experience in group facilitation and developing and delivering Psychoeducation programs.
  7. Be comfortable working across multiple client management systems, e.g. Csnet, rediCASE, and Cliniko.
  8. Be able and accountable for managing client caseload according to required KPIs, balancing individual work with group facilitation. Highly developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and excellent engagement skills, especially in engaging people with eating disorders.
  9. Support innovative state-wide service delivery; some interstate travel will sometimes be required.

The applicant must possess the following:

  • Valid and current Qld Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel across the specified working region as needed
  • Current (or be able to attain) Working with Children Check (Blue Card) and Disability Worker Screening (Yellow Card)
  • If applicable, registration with the relevant professional body (e.g. AASW, PACFA, AHPRA etc.)
