About Womensline

Womensline is a 24/7/365 free crisis helpline for women and children across Queensland experiencing domestic and family violence. We operate from an intersectional feminist framework, acknowledging that domestic and family violence is gender-based violence, predominantly perpetrated by men against women and children. We provide immediate individualised support and options to help victim-survivors feel safe again, whether they want to stay in the home, are thinking about leaving or have already left.

About the role:

As a Crisis Intervention Counsellor, you will respond to calls from women who have been identified as being at risk of domestic and/or family violence, or who require crisis counselling and information related to domestic and family violence or sexual assault.

Key responsibilities –

  • Completing comprehensive intake and risk assessments
  • Establishing safety plans
  • Advocating and facilitating warm referrals to appropriate services
  • Providing crisis counselling and psychological first aid

About you:

You are an experienced social and community services practitioner who thrives in high demand environments and is passionate about delivering calm, compassionate and effective crisis support over the phone to those who need it most.

Role requirements:

  1. Completed tertiary qualification (min. bachelor’s degree) in social work, human services or similar.
  2. More than 2 years’ experience working in a similar role. Other work experience within the social and community services field may be considered.
  3. Strong computer and telephone multitasking skills, with the ability to accurately document case notes in real time and maintain database integrity.**Womensline operates 24/7 and receives a high volume of calls**
  4. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the effects, causes and dynamics of domestic, family and sexual violence, and how DFSV relates to gender-based violence.
  5. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle high stress matters calmly and effectively.
  6. Experienced in providing respectful, supportive and culturally safe responses for people from diverse communities.

  • Availability to complete 3 weeks of onboarding training
  • Flexibility to work across a 24/7 roster

  • Hold a valid (P) BlueCard/WWCC
