Summary:

The Disability Support Worker is responsible for implementing training and support services to maximise the living, employment, social, and recreational skills of people with disabilities. These supports should promote community inclusion, independence, decision-making, and personal choice, focusing on individual needs.

We currently have some casual positions available in the Wellard and Baldivis areas.

Responsibilities:

Providing care and support to participants in line with their personalised care plans, including:

  • Personal tasks such as showering, dressing, and any other related tasks that may fit into this category
  • Domestic assistance such as house cleaning and tidying up, outdoor cleaning and maintenance of the gardens that do not require the use of heavy equipment, e.g., picking up weeds and watering plants
  • Social support: such as transporting participants to the community, engaging in their activities and interests, supporting them with planning, etc.
  • Transport
  • Meal preparation, including meal planning, grocery shopping and cooking
  • Group participation
  • Life skills development

Selection Criteria:

  • Ability and willingness to behave in accordance with company Mission & Values
  • ​Minimum qualification at Certificate III level in one of the following: Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, Community Services, Disability, Aged Care/HACC or Allied Health Assistant (Devoted will consider students currently studying one of the above or similar qualifications).
  • Current First Aid Certificate, CPR certificate Medication Competency, NDIS Orientation Module, Infection Control Certificate, Manual Handling Certificate
  • Commitment to using a human rights-based, person-centred approach in working with people with all types of disability and maximising their choice and control at all times
  • Sound knowledge of the NDIS and how it can assist people to achieve their goals 
  • Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate with and relate well to people we support and their families, especially those with diverse communication styles and needs
  • Knowledge of local community networks and a demonstrated commitment to ensuring the community has a positive image of people with disabilities and mental health issues
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others as part of a team and contribute to team goals
  • Demonstrated computer use competency, including client information management systems, email, administrative and clinical documentation skills
  • Willingness to participate in shift work, which may include various days, weekends, afternoons and/or evenings, and public holidays
  • Reliable and comprehensively insured vehicle
  • Current Working with Children Check or be prepared to apply for one 
  • NDIS worker screening check  
  • Current Drivers Licence “A” or “C-A” class
